Sprint PPC-6700 - ActiveSync 4 miserable failure

Got the PPC-6700 today. Insert the CD and install ActiveSync 4.0 and Outlook 2002 (Gee... why I need Outlook??). After cradling the device, ActiveSync does not respond at all; the gray round icon in the tray even does not bother rotating for a while. Instead, a new Network Adapter is added and it desperately tries to acquire an IP address.

In Device Manager, a new "Windows Mobile-based Device" is added under "Network Adapters", but there is no "PocketPC USB Sync" added under "Windows CE USB Devices". As a matter of fact, there is no device category as "Windows CE USB Devices" appearing at all.

Tried to disable any firewall, no luck. Also tried to install ActiveSync 4.1, still no luck. Hard reset the device, unInstall and reInstall ActiveSync 4, rebooting... You name it, except formatting my pc. Tried to call Sprint advanced support and talked to a clueless lady for one hour, not helpful at all.

Guess the new device type "Windows CE USB Devices" is the key to trigger ActiveSync... But why I cannot get such a device type??

Thanks a ton!

Moved to Help & Advice.

Strange, I haven't got much experience of Activesync with WM5 although I am using Activesync 4. Don't know how the HTC Blue Angel I have will compare with your HTC Falcon (the PPC-6700), especially as its running Windows Mobile 2003 SE, but on my desktop (Windows XP Pro SP2) I DON'T have a 'Windows Mobile-based Device' entry under Network Adapters but DO have 'Pocket PC USB Sync' under Windows CE USB Devices. Could any WM5 Pocket PC owners compare this with their set up and offer any insights?

U've tried all the obvious things like ensure the usb cradle is plugged directly into the usb on your desktop, no other Activesync devices plugged in, etc?

you could try removing activesync and uninstalling all WM and PPC related devices and restart.....
