Using quad band in japan

Hi, my brother is going to Japan, and I give him my mpx 220. He need to make something to the phone to activate the quad band or it take it automatically?

Just go to: Start, Settings, More, More, Phone Settings, scroll down to Preferred Band and make sure is set to Automatic. That's all you need to do although Prefered band is set to automatic by default anyway

I don't think you can use GSM phone in Japan, as they use their own flavour of CDMA (inverse of what we use in north america) so mpx220 is basically useless over there.

You GSM phone will not work in Japan regardless of which band you use. You could rent a phone from Au, vodafone, Tuka or Docomo at Narita airport when you get there. It is a little expensive but if you really want to use a phone there.....then there is a little shop in the arrivals area where you can rent them.
