Guest Stoic Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 I have just installed VisualStudio 2005 (Beta 2), and wanted to play around with developing a Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone application, but I can only find options for creating Smartphone 2003SE applications.. Went to the MS site and found the ‘Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Smartphone’ which I downloaded and installed.. but still have no options in VS2005 to compile and emulate to windows mobile 5.. There is an option for ‘Windows Mobile 5 CE’ but that’s makes an app that’s not designed for Smartphone and by the looks of it not for PocketPC’s either.. Just want to get coding away with WM5 what am I doing wrong.. Thanks
Guest Zone-MR Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 When you install the Smartphone SDK, new projects you create will have WM5 Smartphone in the target platform list. However, existing projects will not have that option until you create a new configuration.
Guest Stoic Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 Thanks.. but still nothing, re-installed the Smartphone SDK & VS2005 but still only get Smartphone 2003.. am i doing something stupid.. are you supposed to install them in special directories or configure visual studio to know that the WM5 SDK is on the machine.. so frustrating all i wanna do is start playing with it..
Guest MiG:uK Posted November 5, 2005 Report Posted November 5, 2005 windows ce 5.0 is the one you want, since windows mobile 2003 is windows ce 4.3 I think thats right . :|
Guest indiekiduk Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Hi, I have the same problem except I am using VS 2005 final. I have the windows mobile 5.0 pocket pc and smartphone SDKs installed. However only pocket pc shows up in the new project window. Any ideas? A windows CE 5.0 project is not what we want.

Guest Stoic Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Fixed: Problem was due to corrupt Microsoft Windows Script 5.x application..
Guest waroffice Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 is it possible to program in visualbasic for wm5 or do i have to learn c++
Guest Allan Olesen Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 is it possible to program in visualbasic for wm5 or do i have to learn c++ You can use both VB and C# in Visual Studio. C# is more or less VB with added semicolons to make it appear like C or C++ (a joke with some truth in it). The transisition from VB is quite easy, and after a while you will probably prefer it since there are more examples available online.
Guest waroffice Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 i will try c# then.... Thanks
