SMT5600,Can't Change Sound Profiles-StuckOnHeadset

I can't change my profile for the life of me. I select silent, meeting, car, etc., but after I do, the select page goes away to the homescreen with the profile unchanged to Headset Mode. I have had this problem for 5 months and am frustrated that I can't make my phone silent without shutting the phone off.

Please  help a FRUSTRATED :x user

Getting the phone stuck in Headset mode has always been a problem with HTC Smartphones. It is caused by the switch inside the headphone socket getting stuck and can often be cleared by blowing sharply down said socket.

Failing that, you could try poking very carefully down there with something appropriate.

thanks for the help

i thought it was a rom problem and was looking all over for the original rom

glad i don't need it

i'm afraid of sticking something down there (NOMO) and blowing the socket (again NOMO ;) ) doesn't seem to work. does anyone else have this problem?

I have a fix that I found and used and it worked just fine. Please use at your own risk:

Use a registry editor and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Profiles and there is a Registry Value of ActiveProfile. Change that value from Headset to Normal, exit out and then switch the device off and on again.

Depending on your service provider (mine is Cingular) I called 1-800-801-1101, which is Cingular's Exchange-by-Mail warranty phone number. I told them the problem, and they sent me a new SMT 5600. I actually had to call in a second time, which was right around the time when the 2125 came out. As is their policy when you have to send in a phone back twice in 90 days, they try to get you out of a bad phone, so they sent me a 2125.

Personally, I'm afraid the 2125 will have the same problem, as the input jack looks the same.

I'm not convinced that registry editing will solve the problem as it is a hardware issue - sticky switch.

Sadly desecrato is right that HTC are still building phones with the same potential fault.

i had this problem on one of my old SPVs, i fixed it by blowing down the socket several times. Surely if it was a Rom prob, which im not convinced that it is, a hard reset would fix it?
