Guest dr_shabzzz Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 (edited) ...can anyone give me a link for a decent bluetooth gps reciever off ebay? for as cheap as possible, that works well...with tomtom nav 5? Edited November 6, 2005 by dr_shabzzz
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Forget cheaper the better, if you want top quality at a good price get TomTom's own GPS unit, make sure it's the latest version and not the one that was shipped with TomTom 4 and earlier. Price wise you are looking at £100 or less on ebay.

I bought one over the weekend from this fellow for £90, expecting it this week. It includes 12mths warranty, which is excellent. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bluetooth-GPS-Global...1QQcmdZViewItem Make sure you get the latest version, I believe it has firmware 3.1.1 Loukas

Guest dr_shabzzz Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 ...so this one on ebay will cost me £80...what makes it better than the ones which are £30-40 cheaper, and is it worth the difference?

I wanted to get a model with the latest technology, so that it would last me at least 2-3 years, hopefully more. What you do get is excellent battery life (17hours), very fast signal acquisition from startup (I think it's a couple of seconds), and good performance overall in keeping a signal and tracking your position. I am not an expert, go read the reviews. I believe when you are buying such a piece of equipment you want to get it right the first time, rather than buy something at £40-50 which will be half decent (losing signal, low battery times, taking its time to find a position, older software / hardware, not pairing well with your pda etc) Just my own 2c. Loukas
Guest dr_shabzzz Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 I think i will go ahead with this one then... its difficult to find reviews on the internet that are genuine and not trying to make something sound good to sell it to you...word of mouth and reading of other peoples is experiences is what i like to make my decisions upon ;)
