Are you saying you can't use one file for ringtones and a different one for text messages ?

Surely that can't be right ?

thats what ive been told, ive looked right through the phone and cant find anything to change the mgs tone only the ring tone, do you know a way i can set it?

Assuming 2 things :

1. your M500 has the same system as the iMate Jam

2. we can still only use PCM-format wav files

- drop the file into My Pocket PC \Windows (not My Pocket PC \Storage \Windows)

- hit Start, Settings, Sounds & Notifications, make sure 'Enable sounds for....Programs....Notifications is ticked in the Sounds tab

- now go to the Notifications tab and select Messaging: New text in the drop-down menu

- put a tick in the 'Play sound' box

- choose your file in the adjacent drop-down menu

Another 2 things :

1. you'd think they'd have used a few more folders in that Windows folder

2. as user interfaces go, this needs some work on it ;)

Please tell me this works on your M500 [-o<

You can use PPCProfiles-Pro to do it if you want to be able to set everything in a single click.

You could start in the PPC Software section here - there is a dedicated sub-section for this ;)

Let's break it down !

Assuming 2 things :

1. your M500 has the same system as the iMate Jam

They are basically the same machine with different writing on the front so I'm assuming that you would do it the same way as I would.

2. we can still only use PCM-format wav files

Any wav file you download that is for Windows Smartphones or Pocket PCs will be cool

- drop the file into My Pocket PC \Windows (not My Pocket PC \Storage \Windows)
Attach the M500 to your PC and let ActiveSync start up.

When it's finished farting about click 'Explore'

Now double-click the My Pocket PC icon.

Next double-click the Windows folder icon.

Find your message tone file on your PC and right-click and select copy.

Put the mouse cursor back into the Windows folder in ActiveSync.

Right-click again and select Paste.

There should now be a copy of your wav file in there.

Close the ActiveSync window.

Now pick up the M500 and get the stylus out and point it at the screen..

Tap each of the above in sequence and read what's on the screen. It should all make sense as you follow it.

Come back here if you need some more explaining and don't worry about asking 'silly' questions. You missed my first 5,000 posts ;)

i can copy a wav into the windows area and select it in the sounds for notifications but the sound clip doesnt play. i have tried clicking it for album to play the sound and the phone crashes and reboots.

the wav file properties are almost identical to one that works on the phone.

anyone know of a decent site where i can get wavs that will work?

There are plenty on this site. Just do a search on ringtone or sounds. I find that anything I record on the device will play.

I found the same as you on a large wav. Mine was 6Mb. It played on wm2003 but wm2003se and wm2005 it wouldnt.

It depends on how the developer has written the play routine. The simplest way to do it will try to load the whole file into memory before playing which can be a problem.
