No I WON'T be posting the files here, but I was intrigued to see if it was possible... homescreen including fully working plugin etc. from my C600 on my SP5.

I was surprised it was possible to pull the files off TBH! ;)

What's happening in terms of homescreens? Will the C550 homescreens work on WM5 or are there fundamental differences that mean they need to be developed from scratch?

thats the one thing i like about the c range is the home screen , as iam going for a sp5 this time i will have to see if i can get the home screen from my C550 or wont that work ?

I take it the Orange Homescreens must be copyright protected etc Paul, hence why you can't share, yeah?

And Paul, not sure if you have seen the 4MB free memory to MMS issue elsewhere on here, but can you tell us if this issue applies to the C600 as well as the SP5, as you have both?

Yeah, it's copyright, hence I can't just post the files. It's Orange's differentiator isn't it ;)

I haven't seen that issue... i'll read up and see what it's all about.

Wade through:

Good luck *lol*

From about Page 14 should cover it.

Also, more succinctly:

From Post number 19 onwards - covers it better...

Nice to be back again mate - might actually hit six stars this time Paul *lol*

The SmartPhone platform has not matured nearly as much as I had hoped in my absence mate, but its still much better than what it used to be, and certainly a real alternative now to the average non-techie man or woman in the street now Paul, is my quick evaluation. I am also seeing WM SmartPhones in use in places I would not have once expected too. Cool.

Role on WM2008 *lol*

I have a feeling that the C600's homescreen uses some generic plugin in WM5 rather than a custom Orange plugin. I tried some C550 home screens and they don't seem to work.

Either way, it's good news. Finally, I can make use of some nice homescreens created by DrBlowGV (in the near future). I wished I could get hold of a C600 default home screen to play around with (I can never ever get a C600). Someone kind enough to send me the C600 home screen?

The C600 homescreen uses a custom plugin developed for Orange by Abaxia, hence it cannot be redistributed.

When the C600 finally makes it to market do you think it will be possible to change the ROM ... i.e get rid of all the Orange stuff ?

Cheers

I also managed to do the same such task. I used the files from a C550 and I found two problems. The first was 'upcoming appointments' would show the wrong date for some reason.

The second was putting my phone into 'flight mode' which I could find no way out of apart from a hard reset. I now think this is a bug in the imate software though because it sometimes does this without my playing with the plugin.

I had to place the files on my SD card because they are locked and I could not copy them to the phone. All got a bit messy really. When I get the proper C600 files I may well have another crack at it.

Does anyone know how to copy a locked file to a smartphone? The orange Homescreen is one such file for example. I had to open the xml file in notepad and copy and paste to another open notepad etc. I wonder where the extra permissions are that are not showing.

I do like this plugin and would love some help with it.

That's the 'system' attribute.

Just view the properties in explorer and turn that off.

Thanks for the tip. I have now placed all the files in the right place as oppose to editing the paths in the registry etc.

I have to report that ,in my opinion, the C550 Orange homescreen will not work properly on a WM5 device.

Shame because it does look nice but the appointment screen shows all the wrong infomation. My daughters birthday is in July but it is still showing in November. Everything else works though.

I can only imagine that the C600 uses a slighty modified DLL to the one I am using. Or that I am doing it all wrong. (More likely to agree with the latter!)

I am hoping to now find the later files.

Ok, so I got a wrong impression of it. Did you copy the plugin file over too?

I am also very interested in this little project. I have just upgraded from an Orange c550 to an imate SP5. I LOVED the Orange customized homescreen and am finding it hard to live with out it. If someone now has a c600 that can pull off the relevant files for us to play around with that would be great!

i have a C600 aswell as a SP5m...

but i can't find the right files to copy over...

i've transfered system files from app data\home but the screen stays blank like i'm missing something, most probably the plugin... can anyone point me in the right direction (just tell me where it is on the phone, don't attach or owt)

many many thanks....
