Guest xerxes Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 My shiny new SP5 is sitting in front of me but I cannot find any way to get my Outlook info into it!!! Activesync gives me an error and doesn't move ANY data to the phone. I've seen the various FAQS that tell me to turn off VPN, firewall, antivirus, unistall Outlook etc - but I can't do any of those things. My pc comes from my company and is heavily regulated by IT. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I can't fix this the phone will have to go back! I cannot understand how MS can create sync software that cannot talk to their own PIM.

I don't think I can offer any help. Perhaps talk to the IT people and see if they can enable Activesync support since you don't have permissions to mess around with your settings.
Guest tha_neo Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 This is what I did. 1. installed Outlook 2003 (from office 2003) cause 2002 didnt work. 2. Installed Active Sync 4.1, found it on spv-developers.com. Then it all worked, a strange thing is that my computer didnt sync with all my usb ports. just one worked... don´t know why...
Guest xerxes Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 So what's the error? P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I try to sync it hangs on "Connecting" for a while, then it says "synchronising", then it says "synchronising folders", then I get a tick mark against my contacts folder (right now I'm only trying to sync contacts) but it doesn't actually do anything. I then click on the status link and it tells me Activesync reported error 85010014 (very helpful I'm sure!) I tried stopping the services for BlackIce, and my corporate anti-virus, uninstalling and reinstalling AS but it didn't make any difference. I've never come across an activesync problem that I couldn't resolve before and this is driving me mad! Xerxes

Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Google that error... doesn't look good :| P
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I think i've had this one before, and it's been a corrupt item. If you sync calendar and mail, does that work? If so, i'd suspect a particular contact is making it b0rk... P
Guest xerxes Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 (edited) ,Nov 8 2005, 20:43]I think i've had this one before, and it's been a corrupt item. If you sync calendar and mail, does that work? If so, i'd suspect a particular contact is making it b0rk... P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried again as follows, 1. Booted PC. 2. Went into services and disabled BlackIce, and everything I could find to do with McAfee. 3. Rebooted PC 4. Reinstalled AS4.0 from SP5 CD (I had downgraded back to 3.8 to make my C500 work again) 5. Connected phone to USB 6. Deselected Contacts and selected Calendar 7. Got a message saying I cannot sync Calendar with this machine as the phone is already syncing Calendar with Windows PC (at this point I realised that AS is setting itself as as Windows PC 2) 8. Deselected Calendar and selected Tasks instead. 9. AS auto detected the phone and started the sync. 10. AS says "Connecting" 11. AS says "synchronising", then it says "synchronising folders", then I get a tick mark against my tasks folder but it still doesn't actually do anything. When I then click on the status link and Activesync still shows error 85010014 Interestingly, AS must be able to at least connect to Outlook because when it says Synchronising it alway opens my Outlook reminder window. Likewise it must be connecting to the phone because I can explore it. Any ideas? Edited November 8, 2005 by xerxes
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 So your C500 syncs fine? Weird... Tried a hard reset of the phone? P
Guest xerxes Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 So your C500 syncs fine? Weird... Tried a hard reset of the phone? P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The C500 syncs ok when I backtrack to AS3.8 I did a couple of hard resets of the SP5 when I was first trying the AS4 install yesterday. They didn't make any difference. I also tried it in the other USB port just in case. No difference there either. One thing I just spotted is that if I go to XP Device Manager and look at the properties of the "Windows Mobile-based device" (under Network Adapters) and look at the Advanced tab I can see the property "Network Address" but it doesn't have a value. Do you think it should? And if so what should it be?
Guest xerxes Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 So your C500 syncs fine? Weird... Tried a hard reset of the phone? P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I also tried a Bluetooth sync. Got the same error again. I sense this phone might be going back...if the shop will take it.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 The C500 syncs ok when I backtrack to AS3.8 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So this shows that the problem is with the Activesync 4.0 setup on your desktop (possibly to do with firewall settings or something) rather then with the SP5. I say this because I've no problems syncing any of my WM2003SE devices including an SPV C500 with Activesync 4.x. In fact, it could support Pauls suggestion that the data in Outlook itself is the problem...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 It's definitely not the device! P
Guest Looby Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I had a similar problem setting up the activesync 4.0 with my SP5. It also registered a PC2. With the phone not connected to activesync I opened the activesync on the phone > menu >options > menu > delete. I then removed activesync 4.0 from my PC and reinstalled it. Upon re-connecting the activesync everything jumped into life with the phone displaying WINDOWS PC and all the boxes open from Outlook and Media allowing them to be ticked to your choice. All my calender appointments and contacts then synced across. Everything now works perfectly. It is not a problem with the device but getting the relationship to gel.I don't know if this helps your situation but don't give up. :|

It's just incredibly frustrating when you have a device that works perfectly until it physically wears out, you buy the upgrade version and get all these problems. I'm going to try removing everything I can that might touch Outlook short of uninstalling Outlook itself (I think that might be hard to explain to IT!). I'll remove and reinstall AS4 and try again. I'll also try syncing my Jam or C500 with AS4 to see if that works. More news as it breaks...

I also left Favorites ticked this time and they synced ok, which I suppose proves that AS4 can sync with the SP5. Nothing from Outlook synced though and I still get the same error reported. I then tried to sync my Jam with AS4. It created a partnership and went ahead with the sync process including all the Contacts and Calendar items. That seems to indicate that AS4 can talk to Outlook ok except when the phone on the end of the connection is my SP5. Aaaarrrrggghhh!

Guest xerxes Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Didn't u say though that it wouldn't sync with the C500 either? Have you tried a repair of Outlook? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have done a detect and repair in Outlook and it didn't seem to make any difference. AS4.0 does sync with both the C500 and my Jam, although it seems to be slower than the old version of AS and it throws up more which have to be manually resolved. I've run out of things to try so I guess I'll try and return the phone tomorrow. I rely on my phone for my business and I don't have enough spare time to want to wade through these sorts of issues. It's a shame. I really thought MS had sorted out their quality issues after my time with the C500.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Really wish there was more I could suggest but given I've yet to use an SP5 or any HTC Tornado for that matter there's not much more I can add ;) Hope any replacement device works out better for you...
Guest Looby Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 As there may be some corruption involved can you try a system restore to an earlier date on your PC? I still feel it is important to delete the activesync partnership on your phone before you retry. I still don't think it's a problem with the phone but I know how you feel as I was at my wits end until it snapped together. :|

I took the phone back and watched the guys there set it up to sync on their PC in 20 seconds flat. They then spent about an hour trying to get it to sync on my laptop, with no success, before giving me a refund. Shame about the phone, but I the company's customer service is absolutely first rate. I suppose I'll have to go back to my Jam for a while.

I installed AS 4.0 from the disc on my Sony laptop (Pro XP SP2) and all worked fine. I was able to right click on calendar, tasks and email to tell the system how many days of emails I wanted to sync etc. Mind you, I disabled my anti virus and firewall before installing AS.
Guest mas99 Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 I had exactly the same problem and the same error code. I contacted Orange tech support and eventually after speaking to many people i got put up the chain to level 2 and subsequently level 3 tech support ............. quess what they said............... The problemn is with Microsoft who have withdrawn Active Sync 4 as there is a problem with it....!!!!!! I asked if the reason the M5000 was delayed for so long (according to Orange) that it was in extended testing, why did they not discover this fault !!!!!! ;) I also have a C500 which works fine and resorted to installing active sync on a bare PC to find that it totaly mucked the tcp/ip addressing ............... Level 3 support said Microsoft were working on a new version of ActiveSync and as usual where unable to supply a date when it may be available .......... ??? MArk
