Advice on JAM (MDA Compact) Hard Reset

I am thinking about re-installing my MDA Compact completely by doing a hard reset.

I intend to try the trick where you do a soft reset at the start of the install which I believe allows you to then manually select what you install (cutting out all the pre-installed junk you don't use).

I have backed up my phone using Xbackup.

1. If I reinstall the phone and then do a restore with Xbackup will this restore all my contacts, text messages, email settings etc. Does it restore all the programs and settings originally on the PDA?

2. If the above does not restore text messages etc is there anyway to save them prior to doing the hard reset?

My Compact is working fine but I would like to free up a bit of memory and have found in the past that reinstall of any computer device makes it all run a bit smoother. Overall is it worth doing the hard reset for this reason or should I just leave it (if ain't broke don't fix it)?

Thanks

Anybody have any ideas?

Managed to work it out. Used Sprite Backup and it restored the phone to the original settings without any problems.

I am now going to try an install from the ground up only using the files I really need to see if it makes a difference to free memory and speed of the device.

Yes, it is worth doing. Hard reset then press soft reset stops the files from the extended rom being installed. You can use file explorer and install the cabs you want directly from the extended roms folder. I wasn't bothered about my texts etc. so just synched mine with Outlook before reseting.

Thanks for the post. As I said I now have a working backup of the MDA so I can play around with the clean installs without worrying to much about losing data.

Finished the re install today and have now freed up at least 10 to 15mb of memory!! ;)

Phone runs a lot smoother so it is worth the hassle. A good learning exercise as I really should have spent more time when I first got the MDA playing with its set up. Also makes you realise how much stuff that operators load on that you never use.

Not gone down the line of the extra memory hack though probably a bit technical for me  !!
