Guest roma0803 Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Hi, I use TomTom Mobile 5 for navigation. Great program but kind of "heavy" to load when you're in a city and want to look up the way quickly. What alternatives are there in the "lighter" category? No need for GPS support (though it is nice if it has) and it would be best if you can plan a from-to route. These i tried: - MS Pocket Streets. Seems outdated. Does have GPS support, but maps are not rotating and no routeplanner so difficult to find your position and how to get to your goal. Only a few citymaps available. - Mapopolis. Nice but maybe to expensive for this goal. Almost a full navigation package but no 3D support. - Google Local. Something totaly different running as a Java applet. Great I believe if you're living in the USA but no detailed maps (yet) for Europe. It's free! (GPRS costs might get high) Has potential I believe and it surprises me not more people talk about it. Others like Navigon NM|5 (for Mobile still in beta) and CoPilot 6 are products like TomTom and to expensive and heavy for my purpose. Any advise or opinions here? TIA
