MP3 and WAV playing problem on C500

Hi everyone.

I don't ask for help much, but this one has really stumped me:

When I try to play MP3's through WMP (v.9) I get no sound. I also get no sound when I try to play back voice notes. Here's the really weird bit, when I try to change ring tones I get no preview audio (either from custom ones, or original standard ones), yet if the phone rings it plays them without a problem. This happens with or without headphones.

I've rebooted, but not hard reset (I was hoping not to have to, and that the combined knowledge of Modaco would save the day!).

Oh, and it doesn't remember the time and date when it's rebooted any more (might be a coinsidence though).

I've checked the file associations and they're fine.

I've not changed any settings, it just happened the other day.

I've searched the forum, but can't find any similar problems. Please help!

Have you put the volume up using the buttons on the side and the actual volume settings in WMP? Tried changing profile ?

It was the volume buttons on the side! I knew it'd be something simple...

I didn't realise that the earpiece volume level went all the way down to mute!

I'd checked every setting, and used all the different profiles - I feel like a right old numpty not trying that. :oops:
