Hi.

Up until recently, I had activesync 3.8 syncing with imate sp3i, qtek2020 and various other little gadgets just fine.

So I got SP5m .. jump to windows mobile 5, wifi etc etc. Out of the box, insert the AS 4 CD in the drive and install (upgrade actually). The installation asked for a reboot, so boot it does. I connect the sp5m, it finds it, I get a 10Mb net icon on the windows status bar, AS running with a pop up message

 "This version of Microsoft Activesync is not compatible with the connected mobile device. Please upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Activesync and reconnect."

Now this is weird - I just did. So after a couple of retries (installing again & reconnecting), I take the decision - forget about all previous profiles with the other devices. Uninstall ActiveSync, delete a couple of as4 files that as does not delete, reboot and try again a clean install. So I do that. And I try to reconnect the Sp5m.

LOL ... same error ! ;)

So lets see, I have another 3 PCs around. Lets try them. (Same antivirus, firewall config all of them - only difference is above PC has Outlook2003).

So I try the one with the least software on it, but already had activesync 3.8 installed. CD in the drive and install AS4. This time it upgraded, but didn't ask for a reboot (weird??). It just popped up the "connect your device thing" so I did, and it found the SP5m so I synced the favourites, just fine. I installed a couple apps too. All ok.

Lets try another PC with no activesync. CD in, install ... bla bla .. connect SP5m ... ALL OK. Synced favourites again just fine. Installed another 2 apps on SP5m.

So AS/Firewall/Antivirus are fine together. So what is the problem? :?:

Back to the original PC. Maybe AS 4.3434 doesn't like my PC? OK, lets try Activesync 4.1.0 (4807). Double click on setup file, upgrade, reboot, connect SP5m

and ... you guessed it: SAME ERROR. :D

So I do the complete uninstall, file/registry clean, reboot, and re-install active sync 4.1.0 clean. Connect the SP5m ... LOL .... SAME ERROR.

So I give up with SP5m and connect SP3i to this PC instead. It synched just fine. I connect qtek2020 ... synched fine too. Connect the SP5m again ... same error.

:D Can any of you shed some light in this? What on earth is this stupid error?

PS: rapimgr.exe, mprapi.dll etc file versions are all correct & I have read the recent MS Active sync (sort of) troubleshooting guide.
