Guest ceanth Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Hi all, i decided to move away from symbian OS and buy a C550 ;) Anyhow, my question is, how long should the first charge be? I have always left my phones overnight to charge but someone told me that the new batteries in phones only require 4 hours for the first charge. Also i read somewhere that the C550 charges when you plug the USB cable in, would this not damage the battery as you are doing partial charges? THANKS!
Guest w411y Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Upon getting my C550 i only charged it for about half hour and then started playing on it with the charger in (I just couldnt resist getting tucked into the device) My battery seems fine, can go 2-3 days without a charge and be fine although i believe it is recommended you do a full charge before using your battery ... make a search on this site. Not too sure about the USB charging but i do it often and again my battery is still fine
Guest Matt Kirby Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 (edited) With modern NiCad batteries you don't need to give them an initial conditioning charge, and they also don't suffer from the old memory effect. They do prefer being regularly topped-up with power, and don't like being left to fully drain. Generally you don't have to worry too much about NiCads. I meant to say Li-ion! What would happen if i did this on the C550?

It is also recomended now (you've prolly seen this) that if you leave a battery idle for a while, it's best to leave it fully charged, not that it applies for phones... I fully discharge mine, mainly coz i forget to charge it... an i activesync over bluetooth, so it's don't even get usb charging, poor phones ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 Never try and drain a Li-ion battery you will perminantly damage it and reduce it's reliabilty and life. It is hard to over and under charge the battery as they have built in protection, but it is still possible.
