Guest tonycornholio Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Yesterday my C550 made an acrobatic leap for freedom into my glass of coke which was sitting on the floor. I grabbed the phone and launched it back out of the glass and it was soaked. Yanked out the battery, and started CPR (only kidding). It wouldn't work at all yesterday, even after 8 hours of drying, however this morning it *appears* to be working. I'm claiming through the House Insurance, under accidental damage, as it's more than likely going to play up in future. What would you say the odds are of it conking out due to corrosion or whatever? I'm guessing the company that the house insurance get phones from aren't going to stock the C550 as it is a bit of a specialist phone, so if it comes to it, what are the I-Mate and QTek equivalents? Am I right in thinking there wasn't an I-Mate equivalent to the C550? If I could somehow wrangle a HTC Tornado out of this I'd be chuffed.....
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Welcome to the forum :D I've heard of phones recovering from a swim in plain water but the problem with most other drinks is the high sugar content. I'm sure you've heard of the dirty penny trick  Qtek's 8300 is the nearest match to the C550 and is WM2003SE I believe. As you say though, iMate didn't bother with this one. We don't condone insurance fraud here but if, you were to go on looks alone, the iMate SP5m is nearly the same ;)
Guest ripnet Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 I would be suprised if the insurance company cant source the phone. I had what I thought was an unusual push bike stolen from my shed recently, and the insurance company managed to russle up a new one of the same model. I bet you wish you had orange care (if u is in uk) - my 550 started playing up, and Orange couriered a new phone the next day, and the courier took my old one away. Thats what I call service ;) g Welcome to the forum :D I've heard of phones recovering from a swim in plain water but the problem with most other drinks is the high sugar content. Guest tonycornholio Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 (edited) I just wouldn't expect a phone company to stock Orange branded phones, as a few years ago I had to claim for a stolen Orange 3310, and they replaced it with a non-branded (nokia boxed) 3330. My guess is that all Orange C550 will come with Orange branding from dealers (if you catch my drift) with sim-cards. My guess is that they might try to replace it with a phone of similar value, in which case I'll need to do some umming and ahhing. I hope they stock I-Mate and hopefully Qtek, but they are yet to phone. Buggers. Saying all that, they probably stock the C550 and this is pointless speculation. The QTek 8300 is WM5 isn't it? The one based on the HTC Tornado with WiFi and what not? It looks the same though, so it's an idea. Don't want to try to get fobbed off with a SP3 though. What's quite funny with Orange care is that as it's a smartphone, if I wanted to join now, I'd have to pay a £100 fee, then the £5 per month. It actually works out cheaper to buy it on PAYG and hope it doesn't meet any soft drink again. edit: I'd forgotten how cool my old old phone is, a T68i! I'm kicking it old school. Guest Zone-MR Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 I'd be surprised if your insurance company refused to cover replacing the phone simply because they can't source a new one. Print off a quote for repair, or the cost of a new phone if it's damaged beyond repair. Your insurance company should be able to reimburse you for the cost of repair/replacment - at least that's what happened to me when I cracked a Jornada screen ages ago.

Although reimbursing Sim-Free cost would be might nice of them ;) Like I said, they probably do the phone anyway.
