I've tried Wi-fi at my University as they have several wi-fi hot spots through out their campus and the reception is near to the good side of the bar in my wi-fi settings ;)

How can I browse on the Internet or communicate on MSN with wi-fi as I'm unable to at the moment :D

Whenever I set the wi-fi connection to The Internet, it doesn't seem to work :D. It's a unsecured connection too if that helps? :D

That should be all you need to do.

One thing to check, go in to Settings->Connections->Menu->Advanced and check 'Internet Connection' is set to 'Automatic'...

It doesn't seem to be working :D

It comes up with the name of the connection and when it connects the wi-fi symbol has an ariel with a ring around it on the top of the homescreen. I don't have the instruction manual here as I'm not at home so I assume it means it not transmitting any data at all? ;)

A silly question from me. I was wondering if your uni's wifi network is configured similarly to mine. At my uni, the wifi is unsecured and I can connect to it, but I can only use it once I register my device's MAC address with the administrator.

Other than that, I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't work. Does it work on a laptop or PDA?

I don't have any other electrical equipment that uses wi-fi apart from my i-mate SP5 :D

I'll try and email the administrator and see if he likes the idea ;)

I have a related query as well if anyone would be able to help. At my uni we can connect to the network points/wireless but we also have to dial a VPN connection to be able to use the connection.

Would I be able to do this on the SP5 or is the VPN connection going to be too much?

Cheers!

I have also a question about specific WiFi settings. I'm at Eindhoven University (The Netherlands), where they use PEAP IEEE 802.1x authentication in combination with a GTE CyberTrust Global Root Certificate, where username and password are the login name and password of my Windows NT account of my notebook. This way you can connect to every wireless router all over the campus.

Yes, it's complicated, even to get WiFi working on my notebook after installing an image (formatting), but now the big challenge for me is to get WiFi working on a Qtek 8310 ;)

Of course I've already unlocked root certificates using the SDA unlock app.

Anyone got an idea?

1. move to wi-fi setting

2. launch the "Enroll", which is used to get your cert from server into your sp. (Cert can be download via activeSync or throught any access point you can use within the subnet). Fill necessary info (server ip, id, passwd), then press "get certificate"

3. Move to access point list, focus on the ap that needs peap, press right soft-key, press the 1. Edit. Press right-softkey again (function). Into (2) 802.1x, check the checkbox "use IEEE 802.1x...", and choose "PEAP" in the underlying item.
