Guest brykins Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 Apart from the media buttons and smaller keypad on the SP5m, are the SP5 and SP5m the same animal inside? Both have the same specs and software? Which one feels the better made as to look at them, the SP5 LOOKS like a more quality product, but is that just the layout making me think that?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 I have the SP5m. It's the most solid phone I have ever held. Theay are both the same...just different outers.

Thanks for that - I have an O2 Online contract due for renewal in January and the best smartphone I can get there is the XDA SP (which I think is the same as the C550). To me, this looks like a half-cocked device - QVGA screen but only WM2003SE, so software will be limited. Looked around and I can get a new contract at £30 per month, still on O2, and get a free SP5 or SP5m - just can't get one on upgrade. So - have to work out if the hassle of getting a new contract, porting numbers, etc, and the extra £11 per month it'll cost me on contract, is worth it for the SP5 over the XDA SP. (Currently have a Jam/MDA Compact and find that as I text a lot, it's not that convenient - want to get a smartphone again for general use and then put a PAYG sim in the Jam for email/pda use)

Doesn't have a QVGA screen at all so same resolution as the SPV C500.
Guest brykins Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 It's even worse! Doesn't have a QVGA screen at all so same resolution as the SPV C500. Is it? This is the XDA SP. I have seen reviews and things online that suggest it's a QVGA device - are they wrong? If so, then it's out for me - had a C500 before and although it was great, I was looking for something with a bit more screen space. Guess it's now either end the contract in Jan and take out something new with an SP5/SP5m or get the best I can on upgrade, Ebay it and buy the SP5/SP5m sim-free.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 10, 2005 Report Posted November 10, 2005 I'm sure the links I've followed and the spec sheet I saw on the O2 site (specifically for the XDA SP) said it was the old resolution, and given it appears to be an HTC Feeler (same as the SP3i) that would be consistent. Let me know if you find any links to the contrary as I'd like to be sure one way or the other... (the link to O2 just goes to a standard page without any mention of the XDA SP)

I love it! I'm lovin' it a bit more everyday since it's a solid phone with christal sound and more and more software available for it. Put in a biiiig Mini SD-Card and you've got yourself a very decent MP3 player. This phone rocks!

I found two sites that say it's got QVGA but then everything else just doesn't state. I have a feeling that it's being phased out at O2 anyway as it's been moved away from the consumer phones....so I guess I now need to ask what phone you (or anyone else) thinks should be the best to re-sell, from their current selection? The SE P910i must get over £200 new and boxed, surely? (I'd have to sell it on new and boxed....I wouldn't want to open it, use it and find I actually like it!)

Thanks for that - and I see from your sig that I might be headed in the same direction......you've been switching between PPC phones and Smartphones and I have gone from Treo600 -> C500 -> MDA Compact and now am looking to get either an SP5 or SP5m. Not sure about your next selection though....that HTC Muse seems to lose out on all counts - small screen and no keyboard either. I don't mind giving up a keyboard in favour of a bigger screen, or giving up screen size in favour of a keyboard, but that Muse? No thanks! Anyway - good to hear that no-one yet has anything bad to say about the SP5/m.

Also I've seen no suggestions anywhere of QVGA... As for a recommended device for resale value, the XDA Exec is second to none at the moment (my own bro got one for himself and a spare to resell and managed to get £100 profit on what he paid for it) but u're unlikely to get one of those free. Probably the XDA IIi or XDA IIs would generate the most (btwn say £200-£300).
