Guest skaramanga Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Hi, when I open the file explorer on the M500, it shows me a storage folder as well as all the others (this is when no SD card is in it). Its about 8MB in size. Is this some non-volatile storage for backing up, or would it lose all data too if a hard reset occured? Thanks
Guest Palindrome Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 I'm afraid if you hard reset, the storage folder will be transformed back to factory default.
Guest peekie Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 i have hard reseted my s100 ( same as a m500 ) and updated the rom many times and files stored on storage still remain there ;)
Guest Br1an_g Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 (edited) i have hard reseted my s100 ( same as a m500 ) and updated the rom many times and files stored on storage still remain there ;) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> reset is a bit different from a hard reset which by default, restores the phone in its entirety to factory settings. not sure about ROM updates but i reckon it can be done without a hard reset. like flashing a bios does not erase teh HD data. Guest peekie Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 i have hard reseted my device many times and the data on storage remains , when the rom is upgraded it has the same affect as a hard reset it looses all the data but the storage seems to remain , lucky as i keep a text file with all the serial numbers to my software on the storage and that saves time looking it up again ;)
Guest Pondrew Posted November 11, 2005 Report Posted November 11, 2005 Yep, the folder you mention is the only thing on Windows Mobile 2003SE that survives a hard reset and it is used by a program that comes with all roms (I think) called Permanent Save. This program allows you to backup connection settings/contacts/appointments/tasks here so that they can be easily restored after a hard reset. EDIT: Moved to Pocket PC Help & Advice as this is the case for all WM2003SE devices and could help others...
