US TMobile Phone in UK

I am traveling from the US (T-mobile t-zones subscriber) to the UK. Would like to find an inexpensive way to get my emails and do some browsing using my phone. T-mobile supposedly charges like $0.95 per minute and $9/Mb of transfer.

Any of you locals have a better idea? One time SIM, cheap plan, etc.

Orange pay as you go sim card with the £1 for unlimited gprs for the day thing? Not sure if that offers still on..
