Guest shadamehr Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 (edited) Roughly as per the title, but let me explain a bit better... My g/f's Nokia 6230i can easily belt out music of a very good quality, simply by dropping it into the Nokia Music Charging Stand that I managed to pick up clearance at a Vodafone shop for just £12 once. For those of you that don't know, its a reasonably compact desktop stand that has a kind of cradle for the phone in the middle, with two built in speakers either side. Drop the phone in, and it charges, while you can use it to play FM radio via the feature on the phone and the aerial wire, or mp3's on the memory card, or use as a handsfree speaker phone. All very cool and decent. We used this to great effect this year by taking it to Magaluf and having instant music while getting ready to go out etc. So... to my post now... I know no such thing as this exists for our SmartPhones, BUT WAIT... Surely, having a 2.5 mm headphone socket on the phone, all that would be needed would be a 2.5 mm line cable, stereo of course, running to a set of mini external speakers etc, and voila, decent volume music from the i-mate sp5, or whatever SmartPhone. So what I want to know from all you clever geeks etc, is whether anyone has done this etc, and if so, where I would get said cable, and what speakers they used, as I would imagine/guess they would have to be internally amplified too? So, what mini speaker set gives good quality sound at a fairly cheap price, and would work for what I have planned, and where do I get a suitable line out lead of 2.5mm to whatever is needed on the external speakers etc. Comments on this anyone...? Help or advice...? Cheers. Edited November 12, 2005 by shadamehr
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I would recommend Creative Travelsound speakers, following Simon Desser's article here : http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=travelsound You can probably find cheaper, lighter alternatives in an Argos catalogue but the usual Sony ones tend to give poor quality sound. Having said that, you're still going to be disappointed if you want bone-shaking bottom end. Creative have updated their range a couple of times since I bought these and you should be able to find a decent deal on Ebay. As Simon states, you'll need to get your own 2.5mm-3.5mm adaptor for the phone connection.
Guest Dr_StrangeTrick Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 I have a pair of Travelsound speakers as well and I can recommend them. It might not be as elegant as the Nokia system but they do sound good.
Guest shadamehr Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Where do I get the cable to connect them from though? Do Maplins do one, and if so, what do I ask for etc? Cheers all - I was hoping to hear this could be done, and it seems it can - cool... Keet the suggestions coming folks - ta all! Woops - just re-noticed the link to another thread up above, I'll go look at that too.
