Petition Orange to release e200 PlugIn for all

Come on and take the poll. If we non-Orange users could have this plugin...a whole new world of Homescreens would become available...further promoting Smartphone use.

If Orange can't release it...then could someone at Microsoft make one?

If that doesnt happen...then could some super cool developer make their own. Cheap would be nice...free would be better. But widely used is key!

Thanks!

Wouldn't you like to use the cool homescreens offered by DrBlow and others, currently only usable on Orange Smartphones?

Wouldn't you like the opportunity to create your own homescreens using that same plugin?

Wouldn't it be nice for Orange to offer the plugin to the Smartphone world as thanks for the support we have given them?

If you answered yes to any of these then PLEASE VOTE and help make the possibility of this come true.

dude, if you want it that badly all you need to do is to grab the homescreen.dll from an orange phone and register it with regsvrce.exe

Do you mean the one the lists the plugin icons vertically? Like on the C500?

I was under the impression that the new C600 did not include the old orange e200 plugin that encece is on about - I could be wrong. I doubt very much that O will ever release the plugin. Shame, coz it is undeniably the most versatile. I don't think I even use half of what it is capable of with the keyclick emulation and shortcuts. But O basically replaced it a long time ago with the rubbish C500 plugin that you can't customise - and that provides shortcuts to rubbish stuff that there is even a button for on the homescreen (yes I mean the contacts plugin  ) - why I will never know.

Has anyone ever actually emailed the O dept that deals with the homescreen plugin, & asked them? It might be worth doing if there was a decent response to this poll. But I reckon to make O take any notice would require hundreds, if not thousands of responses.

It'll be very interesting though if looeee has some way of copying the plugin to another phone (that's a big bit of news to be keeping to yourself by the way!! ). As the plugin is not seemingly referred to in any of the phone documentation, does that mean it could be freely distributed if it can be copied?? Orange clearly don't care about it ... they have never published any details on it's amazing capabilities ... and they replaced it pretty quick ... interesting ... :)

Please guys. The E200 plugin is copyrighted. Respect the forum rules and don't let this topic go off-top :)

I own an e200 as well as a c600. A am pretty sure that I wouldn't be violating any agreements copying that file from one of my phones to another.

encece: Oops you are correct, I am referring to the wrong phone's orange plugin. If you want to copy the plugin from the e200 that you own to a newer phone that you also have then:

Open a home.xml file that contains the plugin

Find its clsid

Open a registry editor

Search for that class in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID

It will have a subkey called InProcserver32

The default value tells you the file involved (the plugin dll)

Copy that to your other phone (can be any folder)

register it with RegSrvCE

Looee, have you successfully copied the e200 plugin to the c600?

If so that's great!

And pondrew if we already own it and it is copy-able surely there is no harm in copying it to another phone?

Ps, What regsrvce version do we use? The PPC arm one??

A C600 will not display the orange homescreen from a C500 it will be in postage stamp size , the only luck you would have is from a C550 , now if ruttonsoft upgraded the homescreen maker then we would have more to do :)

For the e200 plugin, size doesn't matter. It is the one used to embed plugins within it, so you can create things like this

(It isn't the c500 plugin, used for the orange homescreen).

By the way, for people wanting to try the copying method, the file is 4orangeh.dll in the \Windows\ folder (at least it is for the c550).

And the file is copyable! Just need to try and create a cab. (Of course it will not be placed on MoDaCo without mod's permission) :)

Grumpy old gits ;)

Actually not sure if I can do a .cab coz the .dll might need to be manually registered. I've uploaded the regsrvce.exe that comes with the smartphone 2002 sdk (mods please delete if unappropriate).

Just get that and the 4orangeh.dll put them on your phone and give regsrvce the path to your dll and then try a homescreen that uses the plugin, and I believe that's all you need. I haven't got a non-orange phone to test this on but can anyone confirm if it works?? :D

EDIT: Created a .cab and I think it might work, but since it contains the 4orangeh.dll file I can't post it here. Grr....I want to know if it'll work!

I would deffinitely be willing to put down some cash for the e200 plugin. Everytime DrBlow releases his latest creation I realize what all of us non-orange folks are missing.

Actually I am seriously considering stopping using the e200 plugin as much. Firstly because the number of 3rd party plugins available is now much greater, but also (& mostly) because I couldn't be bothered having to make 2 or 3 versions of each theme to accomodate non-orange phones. It would be great if everybody could get access to it, as it is still far beyond any other plugins in terms of functions.
