Ok so if the battery goes completely flat i loose all installed things right? So is there any option in active sync to make an image or backup the whole phone so if the battery does die then the backup can be used (also if you screw the phone up!), i was thinking something like a system restore like you get on windows XP.

I'm sure you don't lose things. That includes if you take the battery out. Well that's the case on my E200 and C500.

if your battery is completly flat you wont loose any data unless the backup battery is dead , to use orange back up use it while your phone is connected to the usb cable and use the internet connection from the computer from that , as the back up does take time as it will also upload all the photos ect from the my docs on storage so if you have 40 photos they are copied as well ;)

Ok, now I'm confused. Since when does a Smartphone have a backup battery? Pocket PC Phones sure but Smartphones? None of mine do, not even newest which is an SPV C500.

Erm pondrew m8 all the Smartphones have a backup battery installed in them, but unlike the PPC it is not user servicable (unless you want to rip your phone apart)

It is used to keep the rtc going, you will only lose data if are writing information to the registry and at the saem time you allow your battery to die. This will cause a registry error and the phone will do a partial reset and revert to a known state.

Here's the pic of the MPX200 battery.

Oh THAT backup battery. Maybe I'd better stick to the Pocket PC Phones huh ;)

Seriously though, I did know that was there (its visable from under the battery on the original SPV the HTC Canary) but thought it only powered the clock! Added to which all my Smartphones and varying software have said none present. Just checked my C500 and sure enough the Task Manager only lists the main battery.

I do recall a thread long ago about All Explorer (I think) when someone asked why it reported reported no backup battery. Someone asked about it and was told there wasn't one on Smartphone! Misinformation huh, dangerous thing

Ok, I'm still confused. So if a Smartphone backup battery (the one I thought powered the clock) goes flat you lose all data? As I say, I understood you'd only lose the time (there was a thread here bout someone it happened to)

EDIT: Scratch that. Awarner's answered already. Writing data at same time as flat battery equals partial reset. Ok.
