Basically getting an upgrade and have been offered ..

>>M2000 - £149.99

>>M5000 - £199.99

Going to have a demo before deciding between the 2 but when I have chose one device is there anything I can do or say to Orange to lower the price of the upgrade?

Cheers, Wal

I would say those are pretty typical prices for those phones, but you could always speak to the retentions team - stating that you are reluctant to spend so much as you could get the same phone on another network for a much reduced price.

Obviously, flower it up a little more but you should get it down a little.

These are already discounted though and your progress will depend on your monthly spend and whether you are still under contract (I would assume not).

Good luck!

Your right, contract ends January some time and only spending 25 a month.

Retentions team? How you mean? Is there a seperate number to get hold of them?

Thanks ;)

Then you are doing well to get the prices already quoted! I would snatch their hands off before they change their minds!

Retentions will only be any good to you if you are out of contract and therefore free to switch to another network. Option 4 - 3 I think from 150. It's the option to choose if you are "thinking of leaving Orange". Generally, the O bods on that line are more useful, but only if they want to keep your custom.

Thanks for that ;)

Now to decide if the extra 50quid will be worth it for the m5000

Personally, I would say yes - but then I have just opted for the M5000 myself!

Seriously, the M2000 doesn't appear to be THAT much smaller than the M5000 and the size is the only thing that would (and nearly did) put me off the M5000.

Of course, it's all down to personal preference, but also bear in mind that the M2000 is relatively old now in comparison.

Now ... if Orange would do the right thing and release the M3000 that would win hands down for me!

Shame that really... there was a poll on http://www.coolsmartphone.com and in 2 weeks, over 800 people voted that they wanted to see the device realeased in the UK !

Am I right in saying that the only things the M5000 will offer me that the m2000 will not is the larger screen, better camera and WM5? Or is there more I am missing?

I'm not the type to buy software so i suppose the device being old will not make much difference to me?

Yup, I was one of the 800! Ludicrous decision by Orange - although I may still get the handset I want yet ;p

I would recommend a search on google for your comparison of the two handsets - far more comprehensive than I could be as I have not owned either of the two models mentions (yet).

Don't let software be a deciding factor though. There is plenty of freely available software for the Windows Mobile / PPC platform to ensure you never need buy any commercial products - unless of course you want GPS navigation and the like.

I would personally go for what I can afford, whilst trying to get the latest model available. Technology moves fast enough as it is!

Will find an Orange / O2 / T-Mobile shop to have a demo of the two devices and see where I go from there.

Thanks for the help ;)

12 miles later i got to an Orange shop !!

Initial impressions

>>M2000 - Nice sleak design....kind of like a Ferrari

>>M5000 - FAT and weighty.. like a Hummer

Turned them on and had a play...

>>M2000 - Had to press hard for touch screen to respond

- Pixels !! ahhhhh

- Keyboard was hard to use (small and cuved) and also hard

being on the bottom

>>M5000 - WM5 looked nice

- Screen was beeeeautiful!!

- Keyboard was easier to use

- Camera/s were sweet

- Touch screen was awesum !! Soft touch and dead accurate

Think I'm going for the m5000 :D The beauty of it makes up for its bulkiness... plus, if i can't be bothered to take it around, I've got my c550... so perfect :D The Hummer kind of run over the Ferrari ;)

The real benefit of the m5000 is the 3g and the better screen thats all i can see. have you tried a k-jam or xda mini s? I would say the xda mini s is a fantastic device with a easy to use keypad and a fantastic size for the functionality. The m5000 is weighty and not the smallest device.. I would recommend to have a 2nd phone if your using the m5000 just because i wouldn't be able to take it everywhere with me.. (leisure and business). The xda mini s (k-jam) is small and i'm happy with it wherever and whatever i'm doing.. If you live in an area with great 3g coverage and are happy with the size go for the m5000. If your not too worried about the 3g and want a phone for every occasion try the xda mini s (k-jam, mda vario) for a 14 day trial.
