Skinning the phone pad on T-mobile Vario

Hi all

Been looking through the T-Mobile Vario manual, and a thought occured to me as I looked at the horrible T-mobile pink and grey...

I know you can apply homescreen/today screen "themes" to the Vario/Wizard - do these automatically carry on over to other screens? I.e. do they automatically recolour other pages too, the softkey bar at the bottom and the start bar at the top, etc.? In particular, the phone screen looks awful in grey and pink - does this get recoloured too?

Never made any themes or homescreens for my previous Smartphones but I know you could do a lot of tailoring. I gather this may not be the case with the Wizard though? So please tell me you can change things throughout the phone's screens, and definitely the phone buttons or I may not be able to bear it and have to choose something else!

Cheers

P.S. Oh to save starting another thread, if you happen to be reading this and know, is it possible to assign speed dials to more than just keys 2-0 (1 being reserved for voicemail)? i.e. can you have 23 for example, where you press 2 and then hold 3? and wasn't the T-mobile Vario meant to come with Opera?

I haven't found a way to skin the phone screen. There must be a way, I'm just new to the PocketPC OS so don't know how to do it.

Just got to settings then today, chose the windows default theme, much better ;)

It sure is possible to assign a speed dial to two numbers.

A related question is whether it is possible to assign a speed dial to launch a program like my old C500 smartphone. Is this possible?

I was disappointed to find you couldn't assign a speed dial to text someone like you could with the SPV/E200. They used to put the mobile number into an "SMS" field and you could speed dial that. I gather they don't now because you can text landlines - would rather they had a field for putting a preferred "SMS" number in a contact so you could still do it, to be honest.

Thanks for confirming that you can have more than 9 speed dials though Matx, another concern crossed off and one step nearer to ordering a Vario... ;)

Cheers crx16 - so "themes" are applied to the appearance of all the screens then?

So I guess "themes" are different from homescreens?

Today screen themes apply to everything except the Phone dialpad application. I can't find anyway within the OS to change it from the grey and pink T-Mobile colours.

Anyone else managed it? Why doesn't it just follow the themed colour through everything else?!??

Surely the Vario comes with some inbuilt "standard" Windows Mobile themes, and at least they would apply to the phone pad?

Yes it comes with the default screen, but it has been replaced with the TMobile one which would have been installed when you first turned it on (from the Extended ROM).

You can probably get rid of it by doing a hard reset, and after you do the "Wecome" tutorial, soft reset. This will prevent the installation of the extended rom (which you can access using Total Commander to install the other stuff) and hopefully the dialer skin.

You can download my little guide on how to access the extended rom here: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach...e=post&id=16540

Ah, has anyone tried any of these? Phone pad skins for WM5:

The site also has some today themes and skins for the little popup keyboard!

The phonepad skins aren't exciting though, or particularly useful - but they might be a head start for anyone who wants to develop their own? And to replace the pink and grey T-mobile special...

Just did a hard reset on my Vario since I'd been installing lots of different apps on it to try them out and I wanted to tidy it up. I did the soft reset trick and the phone pad is still customised with the T-Mobile skin so it doesn't look like that one will work.

Bummer. It must be already installed into the ROM, and not go through the extended rom. :)
