Really hoping someone can help.

Had my Vario for, oooh, about 10 hours. Played with it, loved it, knadgered it.

After reading another thread, I installed HitchHiker (wifi s/w). Tried to run it and it made my Vario crawl and didn't actually work. Eventually managed to close Hitchhiker, but a couple of hours later I tried it again. Vario froze and nada, nothing more.

Soft reset. Wouldn't reboot, even after an hour. Get's to the 4 lines on the boot sequence and stops with OS 1.3.2.2. Even did a hard reset. Nada, again. Gets to the same point and nothing happens.

Please, can someone offer a glimmer of hope? I'm getting kinda desperate...!

When you did the hard reset, did a screen come up with white text on a black background (dos-like) asking you press the send key (i.e. the green phone key)? If not, you might not have done a hard reset. If you did do a hard reset, I wouldn't really have an clue of what to do, though I'm sure some one else would have more of an idea tham me.

Ah, you've offered me a glimmer of hope! Didn't get that, just went back to the T-Mobile boot screen and hangs there. Sounds like I may not have done a hard reset.

What I did: Hold the Comm Mgr and Voice Command buttons, which made it vibrate and whilst doing so, pressed the stylus into the soft reset hole. Phone went blank and quickly went to the T-Mobile boot screen with the 4 lines of boot instantly showing.

This is what the manual (page 88) says for a Hard reset. But I didn't get what you've said.

Will try it another couple of times and see what happens, but if anyone can shed any further light, please, please, please feel free to post away.

Hold the front page!

Pressed and held the two buttons and the soft reset for much longer, and it went to the screen you mentioned.... currently back on the load screen again....

Wahayyyyyy! Complete factory reset. Never thought i'd be happier to say that!

Thanks guys.

For the record, a hard reset takes holding the buttons down for MUCH longer than you might think. I'd change the manual to read:

Hold the Comm Mgr and Voice Command Buttons whilst depressing the soft reset and keep holding them buggers in for about 10 seconds. Release the soft reset (with stylus) then release the other two....

Thanks, all.

Nick.

(now to start from scratch).

Actually you don't have to hold soft reset in at all - just the Comm and Voice buttons.

i.e.

Press & keep holding Comm & Voice with one hand

Operate Soft Reset momentarily with stylus using other hand

Keep hold of Comm & Voice for about 5 seconds more until black and white warning text appears

Press Green Send key.
