Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Anyone having this problem? I have not been able to send an MMS yet. When I send an MMS (all photo sizes)...I get this error. "There is not enough free space for message sending. Please free up some space and try again." Then I get: "Unable to send your message(s) Your message will remain in the Outbox." Anyone get the same?
Guest Pondrew Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Check out some of Shademehr's posts. Think the topic which discussed it was E-Trust Antivirus Annoyance or similar... EDIT: must be getting lazy as I was gonna leave this post at that! Anyway, Shad was one of the first to highlight something that's apparently common across all Smartphones (according to some of the more experienced members), an MMS won't send with less then 4mb storage on the device. Paul discovered that a new rom for the SP5 on the Imate ftp greatly increased available storage. Maybe you should check for an SP5m update...
Guest shadamehr Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I would NEVER second guess Paul or anything, but on previous devices, in my humble recollection, low free memory actually meant low free memory though - certainly a lot less than 4MB - I know this from my C500. From experiences with the SP5 and WM5.0, and the reply that I got back from i-mate over this, it seems the issue is WM5.0's interpretation of what 'low' amounts to... And with WM5.0/SP5, this equates to 4MB - 4MB or less, and you can't even send an MMS of just 12KB. I understand what Paul is saying, but I am near sure the threshold was a lot lower and more realistic for WM2003 devices etc. And Paul, if you are reading this at any point, can you read the PM I sent you about Papyrus? Encece, can you let us know if increasing Storage Memory to over 4MB works for you - if so we will add you to the by now, guarenteed list...
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 How do I increase my storage memory to 4MB?
Guest Pondrew Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 What is your storage reported as at the moment? Ringtones and homescreens along with another other documents stored on the phone will use up available storage, as will apps not installed to the mini-sd...
Guest shadamehr Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Er encece? over 3,000 posts and you ask THAT *lol* Nothing magical mate - we just mean get a memory card and install EVERYTHING to that instead... It will happily handle Contact pics, wallpapers, ringtones and videos etc. And install all your add on apps there too. If you do that, you should manage just over 4MB free storage. Do a "Clear Storage" run and you will end up with maybe 8MB free storage once you put the basic stuff back on. And install the NRE language ROM that has UK English, and you will get even more free room once installed. But there is no magic wand to it, and it STINKS a lot doesn't it, having to do all this - so despite claims that all SmartPhones have suffered this, not to me they haven't - this is new with WM5.0
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 I thought there was a new way on WM5, that I didnt know about do delegate a certain amount of memory to Storage and the rest for programs!!!!! Storage 17.95MB Used: 13.36 Free: 4.58 Program Mem: 44.70 Used: 28.61 Free: 16.10 And I barely have anything installed in memory.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 15, 2005 Report Posted November 15, 2005 Strange. It does say you have more then 4meg storage available. Guess the limit is slightly higher. U tried freeing more space and trying again?

Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I just fixed mine last night. I went into the MMSC settings and raised my max size to 250K. That fixed it going out as well as coming in.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 By the way, I deleted the Virus Software as soon as I got the phone as well. As soon as I started it up. How can they make a virus software if there is no virus that exists on the phone OS yet? (that I know of).

Cheers <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That issue is NOT the 4MB issue - that is either wrong MMS settings, or the MMS you are trying to send is over the network sending limit - UK nets are limited to 100K - this applies to all phones of all description and type - set the photo size for MMS sending down to 320x240 or lower.

BUT.. .as you are in the USA 9?) I think this is the difference here... it SOUNDS as if US nets CAN have bigger MMS - so all you have done is changed the sending size limit, and it seems to have worked? We are not sure because your response of "I went into the MMSC settings and raised my max size to 250K" is not very clear. We in the UK can't raise the limit, we have to do the converse, and lower the MMS size...
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 (edited) In the MMSC Settings there is a Max Sending Size that was set to 100K. It can be set to 100K, 200K, or 250K. Setting it to 250K fixed it for me, and like I said, I can send and receive fine now. How do you send video/audio MMS messages in the UK with such a small size limit? Seriously though, most Nokias now come with a 300K setting, so as per the 6230i and the 6680, Nokia quickly had to release firmware updates, as people taking photos in VGA size were not having them scale down as they were already under 300K, when in fact they needed to be under 100K for Uk sending. Anyway, in answer to your 'question' we seem to have done pretty much OK in the Uk for all things Mobile Phone based for the last twenty years (cough cough USA) so I'm not gonna start panicking just yet Mr Quad Band Needed .
Guest nickcornaglia Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 So that's how it is, huh? Ah-ite!
Guest peekie Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 my MMS seems to work ok , the only thing that will not work is eclipse , it just wont start , all i get is not enough memory :) rather have the mms problem as i dont use it

Guest shadamehr Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 (edited) You ALREADY know the problem. We have told you you NEED to change a setting. I appreciate you can't find it, and I will help you to do so now, but given that you know this setting needs changing for it to work, and you haven;t found it to change it, then CLEARLY its not going to work is it? *lol* Anyway... Here's what you need to do... Go into Start > Messaging. Then MMS Then press MENU Then OPTIONS Then Account Options Then MMS again Then press MENU again You should see "MMSC Settings" - choose that. It should then have "O2 MMSC" listed - highlight it if not already, and press Menu, then EDIT Check the MMSC URL, and notice the UPPERcase letter "O" for O2 Change this to a lowercase "o" instead, being careful not to alter anything else. Then press Done. And come right out of it all. Now, provided you have done this properly, and you are an O2 contract Customer AND you have more than 4MB Free Storage on the phone, you should be able to send a receive MMS I have Emailed i-mate back about how they promised to upload the NEW cab file by Wednesday, and have not done so, as I downloaded this again myself on Thursday when I got my second SP5 and noticed it was still wrong. But they have a four day reply turnaround for queries so by the time I get a reply from them, they may have finally put the correct cab file online anyway... EDIT: 17 APG, BOTH the problems you are having are well documented on here. Above is the answer to the MMSC setting issue. The other one is plain - you have to have 4MB free storage. If you don't MMS won't even try and send. It's up to you how to manage 4MB free though - but for now there isn't a workaround, you must make 4MB free. I DO HOWEVER fully agree with you that having this limit is stupid. In terms of solving it, again that is ALSO heavily covered on this site, please look around, where suggestions range from moving stuff to Memory Card, thru to ROM updating to the NRE English ROM which seems to have much more free room when installed. You will lose any existing data on the phone when you do this though. Edited November 18, 2005 by shadamehr

My storage is not a problem right now; I have over 6 meg free. Might try the new ROM though.... Now when I try to send MMS it tells me "user barred" ??? I guess I will have to get on to o2 on this one cause it worked fine on my SP3i. Thanks again Arthur
Guest shadamehr Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 "User barred" is a very new one to us on here - this has not cropped up before, so the ROUGH guess would definately be that this is OPERATOR based, so you would need to ring O2 and ask them what that means. Progress, but still frustrating for you.

I will download the English only ROM version and install as well to give me more usable memory. Thanks again for your help. Arthur
