Hi All,

Been reading the forums for a few days trying to understand what is going on and trying to find the answers to some questions I have but with no luck so I am diving to ask you experts :)

Just got a new 02 XDA Exec a few days ago. Like it so far but would like to understand a bit more about it and 02 are rubbish for helping.

1) Is it a generic branded model? If so what is it based on and can I apply and updates etc for this within screwing things up?

2) What software can I load into it? Any PPC2005 software or does it need to be PPC Mobile Edition 5 specific?

3) Anyone know if there is an update to allow the bluetooth to work with my BMW. I can accept calls but cannot get the address book or make a call from the in-car controls?

4) Anyone got any good links to XDA Exec compatable stuff?

5) Anyone got any piccies or more information on the car kit of it?

6) Is it possible to 'sync' the contents of a SD Card like the normal My Documents via ActiveSync4?

Thanks all in advance.

Hi and welcome to MoDaCo.

Congrats on getting the XDA Exec, it's pretty state of the art although you'll see some new owners are posting of problems with it. Chances are however resolutions will be found to most issues.

Now to answer your queries:

1) Is it a generic branded model? If so what is it based on and can I apply and updates etc for this within screwing things up?

A) The device is manufactured by a company called HTC (High Tech Computers) who don't sell it directly, instead allowing operators or resellers like O2 or I-Mate to rebrand it and rename it as their own. The O2 version you know, the others include the T-Mobile MDA Pro, Orange SPV M5000, I-Mate Jasjar, Qtek 9000 and more. Having said that, the easiest and safest way of keeping upto date is sticking with the updates released by O2. You'll eventually find O2 Exec updates at www.my-xda.com.

2) What software can I load into it? Any PPC2005 software or does it need to be PPC Mobile Edition 5 specific?

A)Unfortunately I can't really answer this question as the XDA Exec running the very latest version of Windows Mobile (WM5.0) is still very new. Traditionally a Pocket PC Phone running Windows Mobile would run most Pocket PC software (it didn't have to be Phone Edition nor did it have to be designed specifically for the version of WM on the device). Unfortunately there have been found to be compatibility issues when trying to run Pocket PC software designed for previous versions of Windows Mobile (ie pre WM5 software) on the XDA Exec.

3, 4 + 5)

A) Maybe someone with one can give you better advice/info...

6) Is it possible to 'sync' the contents of a SD Card like the normal My Documents via ActiveSync4?

A) Not that I know of but you can access the contents of the SD card easily enough through Activesync / Explore
