Guest nforsans Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Hi A problem I have been experiencing recently with my Vario is that for no obvious reason, the system seems to disable momentarily access to my storage card. I've got a 1GB sandisk mini SD card where most programmes are installed to keep memory usage low. Occasionally, when I start AvantGo or other programmes installed in the Storage card, I get an error message that says that the system has disabled access to the storage card. Browsing the device using Total Commander or File explorer, I then realise that my storage card, initially called "Storage Card" now appears in File Explorer as "Storage Card 2". Therefore, all my shortcuts to programmes supposedly installed into "Storage Card" don't work. I then need to soft reset my device, and rename "Storage Card 2" as "Storage card" to get access to my programmes and shortcuts to these in the programs part of the Vario. I've never experienced this problem before on the Blue Angel or any other Pocket Pc - neither have I read anything on the forum on a similar problem. Does anybody know what's going on? Why would the system disable my storage card, even for a limited time? Thanks for your help.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Don't like the sound of this one little bit. Anyone else experience it? Hope this isn't a common fault on them because it sounds a pretty bad one if it is... ...reminds me of the SPV E200 after an early update introduced a bug whereby the SD card slot would go dormant after a while and be unable to read the SD card until reinsterted :?:
Guest beermonstermatt Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Hello Had a similar problem on a Mitac PPC (not phone edition) that I used to have, problem came about if you set the system only to wake up on the power button (instead of any button press) if the card was taken out and put back in while the device was off next time you turned it on it would rename it SDCard2 and would not access it, as with your self a soft reset would cure it, never found a total solution but I found that if you turn the device on before removing the card and had it on when you put the card back in it worked. Not sure if this is the problem but might be worth trying taking the card out and putting it back in when the device is off and seeing if that causes it.
Guest nforsans Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Thanks for your thoughts on this. I'll try and do what you suggest, but are your programmes installed on the storage card? This started to happen a couple of days ago when, after a hard reset I decided to install nearly all my programmes onto it - AvantGo, MortPlayer, Egress, etc. Before that, I did not have any problem at all!
Guest Pondrew Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 I always install non essential apps (anything not essential for use of the device) onto storage card. As I say, never had this problem. But then I don't have an HTC Wizard (MDA Vario)
