Guest BRITISHBABOON Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 being totally new to smartphones I am a bit loathe to start messing before i have a clue what I'm doing.I'm pretty literate on the pc and understand most things but need guidance before I start installing stuff on my SPV c500. For instance I have downloaded one or two apps (notbad and smart explorer) to my pc, how and where do i put them on my phone? They are rar files at the moment.I put notbad on which worked but when I saved any notes and tryed to reopen them i couldn't associate them, getting accociation failed messages. All a bit basic I know but don't want to screw my phone.
Guest Tech Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 (edited) usually to install software either a cab file is used (place it on the smartphone and execute it) or sometimes you get a proper setup installer - just run that from your PC. or extract the zip/rar files on the PC and then look at what type of file it is (read 1 and 2) Edited November 20, 2005 by Tech

Guest BRITISHBABOON Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 just a thought, where do I put them,in program files or somewhere else
Guest w411y Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 Kindly check this here! Various ways of installation. 1 tip i will give you is that beware of .cab files as they are usually recognised as .rar files and people end up unpacking them.
Guest Disco Stu Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 It doesn't matter where you put the cab files as they are deleted after installing their contents. The cab file contains the instructions of where the software gets installed, though you usually get the choice of phone memory or storage card. So, just put it somewhere you can find it easily with the phone's file explorer - \Storage \Windows \Start Menu \Accessories is a good bet as there is not much else in there to lose it amongst. :)
Guest BRITISHBABOON Posted November 21, 2005 Report Posted November 21, 2005 8) some good info there! have installed smart explorer successfully cheers! working nicely. laters
