Guest rodg98133 Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Will/can the network lock a PDA if it is lost? The reason I ask is I have seen one on ebay that was lost and has now been found. I emailed the seller and they told me it was not locked. would this be the case?
Guest Pondrew Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 I'd expect the situation to be much the same in that Pocket PC Phones have IMEI numbers too, the identifying number that a network blacklists when a device is reported lost/stolen.

They can't 'lock' the PDA to stop it working as a PDA but they can bar the IMEI from logging onto a phone network so you're not able to use it as a phone. It all depends on which network the PDA was provided on and if the PDA was insured, who they reported it to. PDA's that are 'lost' that have originally been supplied on Orange will almost certainly be barred from any network in the UK. Currently these units, if unlocked, will work on european mobile networks but with the mergers happening currently between mobile companies it's only a matter of time before they share their lists of blocked imei's. If the original owner is the one who 'found' it and they haven't made a claim for insurance they can very easily have it un-barred. If they have made a claim, technically the handset belongs to their insurance company. Ask them if they claimed for it, and if so, who with. Richard
Guest rodg98133 Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 It's on O2 and they claimed through the insurance provided with the network. They have already had a replacment which is why this one is spare.
