Guest Rommie2k6 Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 (edited) Ok, The problem I am having is with the different "brands" of PPC CPU out there - from Intel, Samsung and Texas Instruments. We can probably leave TI out since their CPU are pathetically slow, so it's between Samsung and Intel CPU. Can we assume a 400MHz Samsung CPU will perform as well as a 400Mhz Intel CPU? Or is one faster than the other? Where can we find benchmarks of the various CPU, and how each "brand" differs? Edited November 22, 2005 by Rommie2k6
Guest MECX Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Well your getting into the age old AMD vrs Intel debate here, i wouldent write off the Texas chips tho, very efficient apprantly granted not quite there yet but they are a hell of alot better on the battery life, some might say that is more important in a mobile device
Guest afhstingray Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 in my experrience the ti chip behaves like a 312mhz in most application...slightly slower in some apps that were specifically optimised for xscale.....
Guest bennish Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 (edited) We can probably leave TI out since their CPU are pathetically slow<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh? What are we, measuring speed by how much something fries itself with mhz? I'm running a TI omap 850 chip, 195mhz, and it's just as fast if not faster than my previous device which was a batterysucking 400mhz xscale (same amount of memory). I'm not sure how much research or experience you've done... have you ever heard of centrino in laptops? Everyone let go of the whole 'mhz=speed' thing, especially with the TIs. It's getting so old.
