Guest Tech Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Hi! As you know with the huge, (thank-you!!), success of my WMP Remote application (www.spapps.co.uk) and the continuing development.... ... I have decided to make another application, almost complete, but this time for the PC, which can easily be integrated with WMP Remote I guess... This application is a PAR - Personal Audio Recorder. have you ever wanted to record audio from the internet on live internet streams? Such as perhaps sunday morning programmes or even just music sets that are playing? Well, I have made an application that does just that! You set the time (start and end), give it the url to the audio stream and away you go! The application will record your programmes for you, whilst you are at work or perhaps out doing something else. The application will store almost any amount of programmes to record in its memory and save them to a config file, so next time it loads it up, it will remember the programmes to record for the set times! The application will record to wave file directly. Just out of interest, how many of you would be interested in this? sure, there maybe applications out there that does this however you have to pay for it! And I wanted to make my own :) thanks!
Guest bennish Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 I'm very interested. Do you mean something like this: I get home, synch my PDA with the program installed in it. At a predetermined time, it opens a connection to the radio stream of my favourite station (Triple J for aussies out there), and records for a certain time. Next morning i pick up my PDA, and later listen to the show I recorded. If that's what you mean, yea I'm interested. Only record to wav tho? Is it possible to record to mp3, or even a compressed wav?
Guest Tech Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 (edited) that is pretty much what i mean! But not really using the PDA. It will just sit on the PC and record from a set time to a set time from a set audio stream. But I could integrate this with WMP Remote for the smartphone so you can pretty much set the times etc... from the mobile device and the application on the PC will jot all this done and configure it, as if you were sitting at the PC and doing it. well, the thing is - its best to record it directly to wave for quality purposes as well as less "skips" in the audio - as if you do encoding on the fly - poor quality and skips! other thing is - some people like to convert the file from one format to another instead of doing a -> b -> c so its best doing it as wave I may have a functionality where you can specify to encode to mp3 after it records so it does it in the background.... but it depends on licensing etc... :) not only that it would probably, most likely, affect the performance of the application IF it is recording another programme whilst it is encoding to mp3 :D Edited November 23, 2005 by Tech
Guest bennish Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Yeah that makes sense. I'm not all up on the technical stuff but wouldn't it be possible to record the stream in the format it's already in? e.g. if i have a 64k windows media audio stream from my radio station, it just records as that? Also, shame about it being just on PC... i'd really be interested in it on the device. Sorta like an AvantGo of audio.
Guest Tech Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 :) nope not possible unfortunatly it is also not really possible to record streming audio on a mobile device. 1) no functionality to capture any stream 2) imagine streaming audio from the net using GPRS - bill would be HUGE
Guest bennish Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 i didn't mean gprs tho, i meant while synched. For instance, while synced i can play the radio stream thru wm player.
Guest Tech Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 that would be completly different :) and not related :D
Guest bennish Posted November 25, 2005 Report Posted November 25, 2005 that would be completly different :) and not related :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> sorry dude... seems i misunderstood
Guest Tech Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 hehe - no need to be sorry :) the more questions - the better :D
Guest Alex_le_brit Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Sounds great I would lone this. At the moment I do something similar using Audacity, but of course with that you either have to set it recording at the right time, or do what I do for the BBC and go to the listen again and then record it. But this would be much better, especially if you had features like Record every day at the same time and Record every week at the same time.. I get what bennish is talking about too, which would be a convert and autosync from your recorded files on PC to your PDA/Smartphone, doesn't WM10 do this already though?
Guest Tech Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 yup that is exactly pretty much what it does. (minus the activesync thing lol)
Guest Alex_le_brit Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 Well the activesync thing can be done with WMP10; which will also convert it to a WMA file, so how much better can this get. Can I have one please ?????????????? Oh wanted to quiz you on the IR doodad too, because I see you're working on something.
Guest Tech Posted November 26, 2005 Report Posted November 26, 2005 PM me about the IR thing :) as for having one.. well im still developing it but doing the final rounds of fixing things up or making it look sexy (er... simple UI lol)
