I have one laptop (hold my master contact and calendar), one desktop, an HP ipaq plus my brand new sp5. I am trying to swap data between these using Activesync 4.1 downloaded from MS today.

The SP5 will not sync at all with the laptop. Active sync just sits indefinitely at 'connecting'. The ipaq however syncs fine with the laptop so at first sight this would seem to be a fault on the SP5 but....

Having used the ipaq to sync data to the desktop I tried connecting the SP5 there. It connects ok and syncs - but only a seemingly random selection (less than 50%) of my FUTURE appointments transfer to the phone.

I am at a loss now to know which bit is failing - activesync or the sp5.

Activesync works perfectly with the ipaq (ppc2003) on both pc's but the SP5 has different problems on each.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks.

I had problems connecting my SP5m to my laptop, but then I found out that when I connect it a new Network connection is registered for the SP5m :?:

I looked at the bindings, there were none. When I checked the Client for Micorosft Networks and the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) I DID get a connection on Active Sync, and it has been working ever since.

However I have collegues that also have an SP5m and they do NOT get a New Network connection when they connect their SP5m.

Maybe this is of help for your situation :??:

Thanks Pappangallo.

I discovered that the MS and TCP/IP clients were all there but the Netbios settings for the TCP/IP stack were causing the problem. I changed them from 'Use settings from DHCP server' to just 'Enable' and I got a connection. After resolving the subsequent Destop 08510014 errors I am synced! :)

I notice that the Netbios has now defaulted back to 'DHCP' settings - but it's all still working.

I would not have found all this without your post to point me in the right direction and the unit would be on its's way back to the supplier right now rather than in my hand.

I gave up on the desktop issue as I was only using it to work around the non-sync with the laptop.

Thanks again.

Paul.

I had the same problem that Activesync just keeps on showing 'Connecting'. I found that after I disabled my actual LAN connection (not the one created by the SP5), Activesync worked like a charm.

Then as soon as it is connected you can enable the LAN connection again.

Hope this helps.
