Guest tommyb Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Hi all, this is my first post after being a long-time reader of the forums here at Modaco, and I wish it was with something positive to say... I have just had the most frustrating time trying to explain to Orange that the 162 megabytes of data they are charging me for in this months bill has got to be wrong! I have a C500 and I do use gprs to check email via IMAP (headers only) and the occasional webpage, and have done for well over a year. During this time I have used about 8 megabytes a month. I mean, I may have got the numbers wrong, but 162 megabytes would take, what, about 56 hours of constant downloading? Apparently, there is an itemised bill that they can see on screen, but they can't tell me the details, or send me the details, until I write a letter to their data protection department. Which will take 30 days to reply to. And in the meantime they will just help themselves to £160 of my money, etc. Is it even possible to use this much data?!? Apparently, they can't let me know the details because since it is about data charges, it is covered by data protection.... (I know, I did try to explain that that's not what it meant but got nowhere, unsurprisingly) They seem completely unable to help, in addition refusing to allow me to speak to anyone else, and maintaining their anonymity by refusing to let me have their surnames. And they call this customer service.... I am very close to cancelling my direct debit, but I do wonder if this will just open up a whole load of problems in the future. Anyway... Sorry for the rant, but there you go. Tom
Guest smeg36 Posted November 24, 2005 Report Posted November 24, 2005 Only 162MB? I went through 1.8GB this month. Granted that is using Verizon's EVDO here in the US. I never went above 50 MB over GPRS, and I would heavily use it. Sorry to hear about your troubles, I hope you get it sorted out.
Guest Confucious Posted November 27, 2005 Report Posted November 27, 2005 Don't you just love orange? It is very likely a mistake but it's now up to you to prove it. Unfortunately all operators are the same so I can't recommend anyone else. Hope you get it sorted! Good luck.
Guest jgraygi Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 Well, I am glad I am not the only one. Here in the States it is happening as well. I have an Audiovox SMT5600 (Orange C500) and Cingular has my bill stating that I have used over 1.8mb for the last three months. I have never used more than 50mb and I pay for extra bandwidth. Cingular also won't admit to there being an error with this amount of usage. If anyone hears of anything about proving your usage please let me know. Thanks
Guest philtech44 Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 And in the meantime they will just help themselves to £160 of my money, etc. ....... I am very close to cancelling my direct debit, but I do wonder if this will just open up a whole load of problems in the future. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have been with Orange for 10 years and have always refused to pay by Direct Debit due to issues like tommyb's... I check through my bill thoroughly and notify Orange CS of any queries / mistakes... and there have be many over the years! This is why I pay cash each month in the orange shop and get my £3 non-dd charge reimbursed... it's the only way to sure you know what you're paying for... May be worth dropping an email to the executive orifice... whoops typo!! executive. [email protected]
Guest elhornet Posted November 28, 2005 Report Posted November 28, 2005 at the speed of orange gps you'd need to be on that thing a good hour or 5 a day to do 160+ megs :) and who the hell does 1.8gig traffic on a mobile? dont you ever put the thing down?
