Guest techdave Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 I just had to hard reset my O2 mini S. It started up without any of the personalised O2 menu layouts and looked nice and clean, but then it rebooted and installed the layouts automatically. I prefered it without, anyone know how to achieve this?
Guest MitchellO Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Follow the little guide I made to stop the extended rom crap from installing: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach...e=post&id=16540 Cheers!
Guest RichardD Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 I went to Start>Settings>System Tab>Clear Storage. It then rebooted again this time giving me the options mentioned in the o2 quick start guide. I chose "Basic" which doesn't have all the extra o2 icons everywhere. It does still have the annyoing o2 icon on the top bar. Hopefully someone will figure out how to get rid of that too.
Guest MitchellO Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Just do as I suggested and it will remove all the crap.
Guest techdave Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Outstanding. Will get onto it after i finish work this evening. Thanks guys :)
Guest Rob.P Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 Has anyone had a look at what's in their XDA Mini S Extended ROM? Was wondering if O2 had put anything radically different in their version of the phone.
Guest Pondrew Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005 O2 Active software for starters
Guest RichardD Posted November 29, 2005 Report Posted November 29, 2005  How do I know which cabs I do NEED, which I want and which I don't ?
Guest Pondrew Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 @RichardD. Modaco's official advice has to be not to mess with the extended rom. The items in it are not meant to be user selectable.
Guest MitchellO Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 But it works so well :) :D And improves the device.
Guest bennish Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) well with the official stance, how about this wording: You shouldn't mess with your rom by following these steps: 1. Don't unhide your rom using TotalCommander 2. Don't make a copy of it, and then do not select just the things you want. 3. Do not do a hard reset. Sound about right? :) The unfortunate thing is, I wouldn't want to install any new roms that come out, because WM5 can't backup! I'm still so shocked about that. People say it's because of persistent storage... well my PC has that and I back it up... Edited November 30, 2005 by bennish

Guest Pondrew Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 To see your Extended Rom you can use Total Commander. I think you have to enter something like //Extended Rom and it'll appear. Don't blame anyone else if something goes wrong and the device suffers as a result :|
Guest RichardD Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 (edited) Don't blame anyone else if something goes wrong and the device suffers as a resultĀ :| Where do you stand on the modders method of getting TomTom on there ? :) I'm getting impatient waiting for them to announce something about WM5. Update... it appears they have released Navigator 5.2 after all. Hmmn, now why did people have to do the funny cab install method ? If I make sure I buy the 5.2 box version should that install without the need of all that fuss ? Edited November 30, 2005 by RichardD
Guest Pondrew Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 Hmmm. 5.2 has been out a good few days now. Awarner made an announcment a while back. Apparently it'll work fine.
Guest RichardD Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 apologies, that other chap was shouting about it being the "MOBILE" version, when I looked I could only find that, but today stumbed on the "NAVIGATOR" announcement too, which for some reason is marked as December 2005 !? Am I going to need to go through all that install stuff though ? Or can I just copy the entire SD contents onto a Mini SD ?
Guest Pondrew Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I would speak to TomTom service support if you're having difficulties but I'd assume you just need to follow the usual instructions. I wouldn't follow the work around because that was just for as long as it wasn't WM5 compatible.
