Guest w411y Posted November 30, 2005 Report Posted November 30, 2005 Was just about to ask the same thing! After using Wifi for 2 days I've found that although you can connect to networks, not all of them share the internet (for example, there is a wifi connection i can connect to in my school but is for the bromcom wireless registers, not internet.) Also, some wifi may be set up so that the computer has to be on and connected to the internet so that the router is sharing the internet, others are set up so broadband is shared 24/7. But i have wifi in my own home and connecting to that gave me the message "Page Cannot be Found". This guy seems to have found a solution but unfortunately his instructions are @ the SP5M and i cant seem to do it on my PPC ( See Here!!!) ... So any ideas any1?
Guest w411y Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Bump! Also, has anyone connected to a 802.11g wifi ?
Guest Nerve Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I believe unless you have the wireless zero configuration (WZC) stopping utility installed with WiFiFoFum you cannot use the inbuilt Connect function. I would say check your IP settings (subnet, ranges etc) with the Vario (in Network Adapters it's the SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter) and the wireless AP, and if you have any other wireless devices in the house are these able to surf the internet over wi-fi with no troubles?
Guest nevawlkalone Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Is the wifi connection your using MAC specific? I mean, the wireless router that your internet connection goes into and is that emmited wirelessly, may be a MAC specific device! Therefore only allowing laptops with a MAC address to connecto to it! It happens at work, my iPAQ wont connect because it has no MAC address. It sees the network n all that bt wont connect! You shoulsd be able to turn it off, as it is only a security feature!!! Hope this clears a few things up! Cheers M
Guest battletank Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 (edited) No no no no.... The Vario has a VERY buggy wireless implementation. It will not connect to Wireless-G only access points, and it will even fail to connect to some mixed mode access points. No amount of fiddling with the settings at either end will make it work. The good news is that it isn't a hardware issue, it is due to the T-Mobile ROM. Reflashing your Wizard with either the i-mate or Qtek ROM's will allow wireless connections to previously incompatible network access points. Could I be so bold as to suggest doing a search next time something like this troubles you - this topic has been covered many times in the HTC Wizard forum. Edited December 2, 2005 by battletank
Guest Pondrew Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 @battletank, true about the topic having been discussed elsewhere (what topic hasn't since the board started in 2002! :) ) but the Help & Advice section has always been the one open forum where anyone can look for help or advice WITHOUT being referred to the search function. It's so the more experienced users can help the newbies just as you have...
Guest Syphon Filter Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 sorry to bring up such an old topic, but i just got my Vario from Tmobile and seem to also be having some issues with my wifi connection. The connection is there and i have a valid IP from my router. But the connection seems really crappy and slow!! Its often quicker to load a page via GPRS rather than the wifi connection!! What the hell is that about? I assume its configured correctly as I can see the wired router and my wireless access point admin pages. But going out onto the internet itself seems painfully slow over wifi at times (as i say GPRS is often quicker!)... THis is a NEW vario from Tmobile, only got it last week and it has the latest Tmobile ROM on it... Does anyone have any ideas to help a brother out!? Its soooo annoying, the wifi was one of the main reasons I got a Vario!! TIA Syphon
Guest Drevil666 Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Wifi works fine for me on vario - got a b/g wireless access point - picks it up fine and the one across the road 8) - connection can be a bit temperamental but probably due to environmental issues. Try setting the performance to maximum in Power Mode on the Wirelss lan settings

TIA Syphon <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Got my Vario yesterday, it turns out that it is a 'well known fact' that the T-Mobile ROM provides very poor WiFi. Wish I had found the posts before I stayed up all night trying to connect. You need a replacement ROM (suggest I-Mate KJAM). It will really whizz along with a decent ROM.

Stabilo I am grabbing this file: K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship.zip from the Clubimate FTP site... Will I just be able to run the updater from my desktop and have it install to the Vario? Or do I need to do something else first to allow the update to run?

It will run ok as is, if you are paranoid you should backup your current ROM. I didn't bother as my ROM is readily available on the net. I have been very pleased with the ROM.
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted April 21, 2006 Report Posted April 21, 2006 Not sure about the "wel known fact" about the Vario WiFi, I have had not problems at all with my network or other family members when I visit them.
Guest Stabilo Posted April 22, 2006 Report Posted April 22, 2006 Not sure about the "wel known fact" about the Vario WiFi, I have had not problems at all with my network or other family members when I visit them. It appears to be a problem with the latest T-mobile ROM. Last weekend spent about 24 hours solid trying to connect with a brand new Vario. Changed the ROM & it connected first time. Your forum has similar posts.
Guest mrfluffy Posted April 24, 2006 Report Posted April 24, 2006 I had a real bugger of a time connecting to my Netgear 834 router, I found that if I disabled all security on the router, it would connect, and transfer fine. However, once any sort of authentication was applied,, the phone might connect and get a IP address, but wouldn't connect to the Net.. The solution? Flashed with the latest T-Mobile rom, rebooted, and it works like a charm. So nice to be able to wander around the house listening to Internet radio on my headphones. The Vario? Love it to bits.
