Guest Shift_ Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 So I'm looking at buying an O2 XDA mini s as an alternative to the I-Mate K-Jam. The only reason is the XDA Mini S, I can get for ALOT less than the K-Jam would cost through I-mate. However I'm worried about the ease of updating the firmware, if any firmware fixes would be, I tried checking the O2 UK site, and it seems like you need an O2 ph# and well I live in Canada so what are the other ways of updating it? I know the I-mate K-jam is far easier to update as you just sign up on club imate, however the cost of it is quite a bit higher than I've found for the O2 XDA mini.
Guest battletank Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 You can find every flavour of rom update on the Internet without too many problems. It's against the rules for me to link through to another forum, but Googling for XDA developers would probably point you in the right direction for a place where you can always download any newly released rom, with the promise of customised roms in the future. Bear in mind that the hardware is identical - a simple unlocking procedure would allow you to put an i-mate rom on an O2, or vice-versa.

Guest Pondrew Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Hey Shift_, he is indeed talking about a different kind of unlock, at least, a sim unlocked device isn't necessarily unlocked to any update. Basically an update will check a device before installing to make sure that device has the correct id (qtek id for a qtek rom, Imate id for an imate rom etc). Unless your device has been unlocked for any update (whereby the id is set to factory default), it won't allow updates for other brands to install. One of the ways to unlock your device for any rom is www.imei-check.com as it both sim unlocks it and sets the id to factory default.
Guest MitchellO Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 (edited) From what I have read, the imate ROM (the latest one) is one of the best, as it removes the Skype/AntiVirus from the Ext_ROM (I did that myself on mine but meh), and is generally stable. The Qtek ROM has some kind of bluetooth problem. The XDA ROM has the 02 software (from what I have read it slows the device) which some like and some don't. I'd just go with whatever is cheaper, and if the ROM didn't suit I'd change it. Cheers!! (BTW, there is a free unlocker on XDA Dev now so paying imei check isn't necessary.)
