Guest DancingMatt Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 Hi So the Pocket Internet Explorer shipped with the Vario/Wizards - what are your opinions on how secure it is? Basically there are a few sites like email and eBay that I want to surf on it, but what about online banking? Is the security of PIE as good as on a desktop IE? BTW if anyone is thinking of getting a Vario, I can tell you it's internet browsing is my faster than my E200 was on Orange. Either GPRS on T-Mobile is quicker than Orange, or the E200 was just terribly slow at rendering pages. But I think the data speed is faster! DM
Guest MitchellO Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I tried my bank on my KJAM, and it doesn't work because of some silly java thing my bank has for entering a security code. Works great for Gmail :) , but My eBay always gives me an error when I click the link :D
Guest veef13 Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Hi there, Just thought I'd say that I use natwest online banking with my vario (wifi or gprs) and Ebay with no problems at all... Security in PIE aint gunna be brilliant as IE's security is rubbish... Personally I can twait for pocket firefox to come out... Also, (this will be posted indivudually too) I've noticed something weird with IE... Sometimes when looking at a site, i.e a torrent dl site to get a tracket to use with Winmobile Torrent, as my search results come up I get redirected to TZones and a content lock page saying the page is for over 18s and I must register a credit card to use! WTF! Anyone else getting this? Seems veeery odd to me... soz if this is off topic... Veef13
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Nationwide (which has a mobile site, cool!) and HSBC work fine, Halifax you can view stuff but more advanced features are flakey...
Guest mcwarre Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 HSBC work fine, Mono, Do you mean the http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/personal/pib-home one? Or is there a different url for phone? Cheers, Mick
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 Yep thats the one, requires constant jiggling of the frames as by default you see a tiny bit of everything, other than that it works fine.
Guest drew_e Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 BTW if anyone is thinking of getting a Vario, I can tell you it's internet browsing is my faster than my E200 was on Orange. DM <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Vario is EDGE enabled as is the T Mobile service. 8) The E200 is not EDGE enabled nor is the English Orange service (nor the 02 service). :) Thus if you used the E200 on T Mobile service, your browsing would be the same & if you used the Vario on Orange your browsing would be much slower i.e. the same as the E200. EDGE pushes up GPRS data rates to a possible 236.8 kbps instead of 32 kbps I have been labouring this point here at http://www.modaco.com/O2_XDA_Mini_S-t230505.html on, as it would appear, deaf ears.

I got my T-mobile Vario a couple of weeks ago and recently discovered that you can use gmail's POP configuration instructions to set up a gmail account in the messaging folder, then use the send/recieve function to send/get new emails. Its much less fiddly than logging on to your account over the internet. I find it so useful to write emails, eg on the tube, then getting outside and just pressing one button to synchronise via GPRS, to send emails i've written and check for new ones.
Guest MitchellO Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 I have POP3 setup and used to use it, but it sucked. Gmail does something that seems to breakup the send receive thing after a while, and it doesn't get all the mail. I just use PIE now. Works perfectly.
Guest nuttyphilt Posted December 11, 2005 Report Posted December 11, 2005 Smile internet banking works fine.... :)
