Guest cougal96 Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 (edited) Hi its come to upgrade time and i need a bit of advice as to which phone i should get??? At the moment i have the SPV C500 but im kinda swinging towards getting a Pocket PC tho due to the built in WIFI, Keyboard & faster processors etc..! Its between Orange M5000 (Stay with orange  ) O2 XDA EXEC(cancel contract) ( I know the above two are the same, i just dont like orange to be honest so i just want to leave but if i can get it for free on upgrade is it worth staying with orange??) 02 mini s (cancel contract) SPV C600 (stay with smartphone?) or should i wait for something else? Size isnt an issue as ive seen the EXEC/M5000 in flesh and i dont think it much of a problem! Main thing is the fact that C600 screen resolution is bigger than C500 so programs are incompatible (or look stupid) plus the WM5 i may aswell go for something with a bit more "OOOOOH FACTOR" What do you think?? cheers Edited December 1, 2005 by cougal96
Guest w411y Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I had an upgrade last week from a c550. I didn't see much point in waiting for the c600, didn't have much advantages over my current device. Looked into the m5000, seemed too big for me but i would have settled if they didnt ask for £200 ! Ended up getting the m1500 and i must say i love the ppc style. Wifi is great.. when it works and for £100 i couldnt really complain. Bluetooth is also a lot better. Good luck :)
Guest Pondrew Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 The only advice I would offer (there's plenty of info about all the devices here on MoDaCo) is not to rule out T-Mobile as you seem to have done. Although the length of their 18month contracts are a downside, low device cost (usually the cheapest of all the providers), strong support (rom updates), and competitive data pricing makes them quite competitive.
Guest Confucious Posted December 1, 2005 Report Posted December 1, 2005 I had a C500 and got a C550 - loved the screen but lack of compatable apps and the media buttons (small and a waste of space) made it a very poor upgrade IMHO. I bought an O2 XDA Exec of eBay and was using it on Three but there walled garden really crippled it. Have just got an Orange 3G contract and love the HTC Universal. Only you can decide which is the better deal for you, the M5000 or Exec. Orange are giving free 3G access for 3 months (near as damn it) and rumour has it theire data prices will come down in the new year anyway. Both Orange and O2 have customised the home screen and software which hampers the performance of the Universal - I got rid of the customisation and am very happy with the performance. Like Pondrew says, T-Mob is the other option. They all give slightly different packages - Orange give a spare battery (if you ask nicely), T-Mob provide a screensaver and memory card. Check out the deals and then decide but I can thoroughly recomend the Universal if you want a PPC and don't mind it's size. Good luck.
Guest trickyhenry Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 I would look at the O2 xda mini (mda vario, Imate K-jam) for ppc or the Imate sp5 if you go the smartphone route as both have wifi. I have plumbed for the xda mini s and have no real complaints. I must admit its taken a while to switch from smartphone but so far i'm enjoying the experience. I can't really see why any negatives for either choice or any good reason to have one over the other... whatever you do you can always change your mind if you find yourself with the wrong choice. Why not go into a O2 store and have a play? If you go to an Orange store you could have a look at the c600 soon and get a feel the new mobile 2005 software. The c600 will be basically the same as the sp5 but without wifi.
Guest Tech Posted December 3, 2005 Report Posted December 3, 2005 (edited) mate i was in the same situation this week. been waiting for c600 for ages. just got my imate sp5m and i love it. get it now! you wont be disappointed. you have my words! Edited December 3, 2005 by Tech
Guest cougal96 Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Just been on the phone to orange for ages trying to get me the M5000 cheaper but they aint having it so ive got the PUC code?? (or whatever it is) I was on the line to retentions and the best offer they had for me was: £30 per month 200 mins AN/AT 500 texts PHONE PRICE: 249.99!!!!! outrageous! So im looking into going with O2 on one of the I-Mode tariffs: £35 per month 500 mins AN/AT 500 texts PHONE PRICE: 149.99 Should i just go for it? As was said before, T Mobile are offering some decent deals but none to match the O2! Plus i like the black design! Cheers for any help
