tomtom GPS problem

good afternoon

i am another personin the long line that has problems with their c500 and tomtom.

In my case I inherited the tomtom software from my father, who has now bought the standalone product.

I have an 3rd party GPS receiver which I can bond with my c500, or at least it tells me its bonded!

I have been told that I need to set tomtom to allow "other GPS" units... but I cannot find the option in the system.

Is this a feature of the latest version only? I beleive I have version 5.. but in the "about" section it reports to be version 4.430 (3130)

Can anyone please help me with this, as I am driving myself mad!

Hi. you should be able to go to 'change preferences' / 'show GPS status' and then hit configure. that will allow you to choose 'other BT GPS' or whatever.

I had lots of trouble with the TT software crashing, until I read somewhere that I should actually try choosing the wired GPS option (I'm using a bluetooth rec). Aparently it's got something to do with the serial port not configuring properly.

I'm grateful for your reply, but there is no "show gps status" under preferences, there is a configure GPS but this only lets me set the gps position display... it also says "no gps device" in the corner.

do i have the correct version of tomtom for the "other gps" option to be present?

I had issues with my Holux GPS236 gps. When initially paired, it is setup on COM7 with the incoming port on COM6. TomTom expects to see the GPS on COM6, so if you swap the ports around it will work. Although I suspect you have not got this far yet. If you open up TomTom, press 5, scroll to GPS status, then select configure, you can then use your joy stick/toggle button to select Other Bluetooth GPS.

Mnay thanks for the info about the ports. I've been trying to get this to work for ages on a BT 338. ;)

Ditto.

Ive tried swapping the com ports but still wont let me into changing the gps, can only see the gps position display and that tells me there isnt a gps device found.

Any help please?
