Just called Orange - again they said release date was November 2005!

Was told that I should call into Orange shop to see if they were having the handsets in as Orange may not be getting them directly.

Don't think Customer Services knew what was going on.

"The phone is still currently in the review stage, so they're testing the hardware and the software to make sure everything is ok with them. It is supposed to be out this side of Christmas, but to be honest I don't hold out much hope"

From a CS just now

C600 will NEVER be released. Thats why I just got my imate SP5m because im sick of orange telling it will be released "next month" then "the month after". It's been 4 months now!

oh, and the imate SP5 has Wifi unlike C600. But both have WM5

Never eh.. just got one yesterday, and it's freakin' wonderfull. But that can be due to me havin' an E200 before this one.

the SP5 is not my choice when it comes to looks, and wifi... uhm doesn't add it for me to choose the SP5 over the C600. Wifi only works when there are Access points... so you're dependant on the presence thereof. Mine is at home, but there I sync by bluetooth. Sure there are 'free' access points, but I do not want my mail travelling over the network(s) connected to that AP.

BUT I would choose a C600 with Wifi over one without.. cool and wireless, I'd go for that.

I use bluetooth as well and yes I agree about the looks but at least the functionality is there :)

It's great for me not only because of Wifi but the OS and the development stuff for me for developing cool apps for you guys, and my colleagues :D

to be honest and its been said before apperently, C600 is not really worth choosing over because it doesnt have Wifi BUT it does have WM5. I still have 2 of my C500s and 1 E200, and im happy! (ok so i dont use my E200 anymore!)

The BIG selling point was not only the OS (WM5) BUT also Wifi and orange decided to be jerks and not go for it...

Imate SP5m is the EXACT same as C600 EXCEPT it has Wifi. No idea why orange said "na, no point". I think that wouldve been a big selling point, however being told for 4 months "it will be out next month" has put me off and put me on the great tracks to get the SP5m

I bought the SP5 only because it has Wifi, and would not consider the C600 because it does not have it.

I dont go around anywhere looking for free wifi points, but my business is internet based, so it is important for me to have email access, most of the friends i would visist have access points, so i can go out for the day/night and not worry about missing important emails

i know i could do this via gprs, but i get upto 1000 emails a day, so gprs is not only expensive, but very slow.

But i can see for some prople that Wifi would be pointless, probably not even knowing in some cases what wifi is!

But as HTC went to the time and trouble of designing a smartphone with wifi, then orange leaving it out?? its either penny pinching, of they are worried about voip.

and considering the likes of the M1000,M2000,M5000 all voip capable i doubt thats the concern.

I have been with orange for about 8 years, and my contract is up for renewal soon, this year they could lose my business if another network offers a handset that better suits me.

my opinion is they should have left wifi in, and those that dont want it wont use it

Was that from a shop? I'll have to go in and start asking!

Same feelings about the wifi tbh, it would be very handy as I have wifi at home. What's the range on Bluetooth? Can I have the bluetooth dongle/router/whatever upstairs with the computers and still connect a C600 using bluetooth downstairs in the kitchen? I'd say they could be about 20 ft apart max.

Its been "in review" for quite some time now

Well they've not managed to flog all the C550's yet have they?

You may be able to get away with using BT through the PC via active sync i have had varied results on range, sadly this means that you have to have the pc running.. one reason i wanted Wifi was so that i could turn off the pc's at the end of the working day

i have seen some bluetooth access points coming onto the market, but it depends whether the bluetooth stack in the c600 supports access points via Bluetooth

Partly 'better the devil you know' i tried One2none (tmob) a few years back, but found i had poor coverage

never particularly liked Voda, as i know too many people had troubles, Three i hate the handsets

that leaves o2, and i have had no experience with them

My very first contract was with one2one and I loved them but then came out the smartphones and I wanted that one and since it was on orange I went to them. That was 4 years ago I believe

One2One were really good but now they've been T-Mobile for a few years the investment doesn't seem to be there. I had originally been a One2One customer and was quite happy for about three years but changed a year ago to Three specifically for their 3G offering. At the same time I recommended the (now) T-Mobile service to my boyfriend who signed up to get a specific handset, but he's had a terrible time with them (expensive and poor reception/coverate). He's now gone back to Vodafone, who I'd always throught were overpriced but they do seem to have some good deals. A friend used to work for O2 and flogged all his Uni attending mates O2 phones on good deals but most of them had problems with coverage.

My only experience with Orange is that I think I knew someone who was with them about five years ago, but of course that's little indication of what they'll be like now. In my mind they've always seemed to be a big player, perhaps slightly smaller than Vodafone, but also a slightly better deal than Vodafone. Guess I shall find out. Coincidentally Three are really good, though my bills do consistently seem a bit higher than they should be, I've probably missed some better tariff configuration or something (keep meaning to sort it out, never get time). Their call centre tries to help if there is a problem though sometimes support is limited to the scripted "fixes" (fairly universal though, that). The main thing driving me from Three is that their internet access is a "walled garden" so I can't use the handset to browse wap sites (including any I put together) or use it as a modem for my laptop with a 3G data speed. Having both the 3G primary network and the Vodafone 2G network sat underneath for failover gives you really good coverage though, and if coverage is your primary concern I would thoroughly recommend Three whether you want a video phone or not.

The path you choose may lead you to the dark side.

Seriously - at least Orange are releasing smartphones with wm5 on there

Does this mean good or bad news for those of us waiting for it on PAYG? The "Coming Soon" pic suggests that it will not get a PAYG release. It seems that it *is* available PAYG in France and other parts of Europe, can anyone confirm this 100%? I would have had a C500 on PAYG weeks ago (months in fact) but it has been out of stock since August (I think).

Does anyone have any insider knowledge on the likelihood of an immediate PAYG release for the C600?

1000 emails a day?... on your phone?.. and you're calling me mad? :) ah well your choice, I'd go for a small laptop with Wifi for that..

As for Wifi... I know what it is. And I would love it to be on the C600... but you can't have your cake and eat it too... everytime... :D

Orange... missed chance...! oops bought it already, only on account of the service I get from the local selling point.

A shop... in Holland.. sorry..

Dunno bout the distance for BT, but it is supposed to be class 2 BT with a range of 50m... I expect it to be 10 m in ideal circumstances.

[ hmm I thought class 1 was a 100 m range and class 2 was the 10 m range?]

I'm sure i read somewhere that Orange removed the WiFi as they would have lost money from GPRS charges and I agree with the previous post that theyre afraid of VOIP. All i can say is thats a bit scabby! Surely giving it the WiFi would have sold more devices and that would make up for the lost money from GPRS charges?

The futures bright?.. hmm!! Even though O seem to be getting unreliable I'm not complaining ... they're PAYG offers are pretty good!
