C550 wont work in US

Just got a Orange C550 unlocked off of ebay for use in the US on cingular. I have a newer cingualr 64k sim card. When put into my C550, i get the error "Unknown SIM Status" and the phone locks until powered off.

Anyone have a solution?

I'm not too sure why the phone is locking up with the SIM but the SPV C550 uses GSM bands 900, 1800 and 1900 and therefore you could have a problem with Cingulars GSM 850 base stations and signal coverage.

I think you would be best testing the phone with a T-mobile SIM.

I figured it out. In the regional setting, I selected the US, and now it works most of the time. Everytime I power the phone off and on again, it cannot find a netwrk. To correct this, I put it into flight mode, turn the power off and on, take it out of flight mode, and then it works.
