Guest ostrichwatch Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 has any gps fans managed to get tom tom mobile 5 working on the sp5 smartphone? i've been at this for a month or so now... i've installed the 5.20 update for mobile 5 from the tom tom support pages and now the software runs, you can see the tom tom screens properly on the qvga sp5, but as soon as you connect the tom tom bt gps device the software bombs and that's as far as i can get each time tt suport are no help yet through their support forum contact thing you use and after a weeks worth of messages back and forth we're just about in agreement that i have performed the upgrade process correctly with the card reader as the instructions explain. good greif. just wondering has someone actually downloaded this update and successfully used tom tom mobile 5 on the sp5 connected to the tom tom 5 bt gps device ? any thoughts from anyone that could help me gratefully accepted many thanks :?:
Guest roma0803 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Works like a charm on my phone. What do you mean with: "the software bombs"?
Guest ostrichwatch Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 thanks for the reply... well I start the software, then with either the bt gps device on or off when starting ttm5 the first time it wants a gps signal it just exists back to the windows start screen, and i assumed it's crashed because the backlight settings are left as never turn off, which ttm sets all the time it's running, and sets back to your own settings when you successfully exit ttm5 as you know. really frustrating because it's great software. i have to keep swapping the simm and sd card to a sp3 phone to use it if i need to navigate :)
Guest roma0803 Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 Seems to me some sort of file corruption of one of the files from TomTom. Do you still have the original install files backed up somewhere? Have you tried deleting the config file from the map directory (mapname.cfg) ? This way all your settings are gone and have to be made new, but if the corruption is in that config file...
Guest ostrichwatch Posted December 4, 2005 Report Posted December 4, 2005 i have a back up from the card reader of the original tom tom 5 sd card before i applied the update. what would you suggest? delete the tom tom 5 mobile sd card and restore the pre 5.20 backup version? then try to apply the update again? do you think it could be a corrupted file? even if things work fine on the sp3 with the same card and things? i guess the sp3 and sp5 might be using different files for drivers so this might explain that maybe. I will try deleting the mapname.cfg file then first to see what happens. thanks for you help!
Guest andyroth Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 same for me too did you sort it?
Guest nok1 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 is it a legit copy of TT5? mine works like a dream
Guest ostrichwatch Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 is it a legit copy of TT5? mine works like a dream <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it certainly is. paid a lot of money for the software, like anyone else. actually purchased from tom tom directly. to be honest i have almost all but given up with this :D tom tom support are painfully uninterested in helping me. all they keep telling me to do is follow the upgrade instructions properly. good grief ! i work in IT, have had gadgets and stuff for years... love my gadgets ;) and i can certainly upgrade sw on a sd card. andyroth : - your tom tom mobile 5 is acting the same as mine then? crashing and such? ... interesting....
