Guest dm.wood Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 (edited) Ok I have just received a shiny new Qtek 8310 from phones2udirect (eventually  ). Heres what I have found so far as settings and configurations go. 1. Standard GPRS connection set up is easy with help from the orange webisite 2.Setting up Mobile Activesync is a real pain. Windows Mobile 5.0 does not like Root certs issued from a stand alone Certfifcate Authority (i.e it expects to see Certificates form a commercial CA such as Verisign - costing around $100). With a lot of help from this site and some adjustements to the certificates issued by my server I now have it working fine. I had to install the Root certificate from my server on the phone and had to remove all the application locks on the phone to get it working. Saying that it now works really well, synchronising email, calendar and tasks with my Exchange 2003 mail server! 3. So far I have not managed to get MMS working. Initially I had the "available free memory problem" which was again solved with help from this site. Im on an Orange network at the moment and they seem to configure their WM 5.0 phones (SPV C600) with an additional menu option in the GPRS and MMSC settings of the phone. The "connects to" and the "connects via" fields for Orange phones can be set to "MMS Network". This option is not available on the unlocked Qtek 8310. If anyone can put some light on how to get round this I'd appreciate it! 4. Strange though it may seem every time I send a text message the phone also fires up a GPRS connection! This connection will stay active, even after the text message is sent. The connection can only be dropped by pressing the "End Call" button. I know the GPRS connection staying active is a known problem but why does it connect to GPRS when sending a text ! Again any pointers on how to solve this would be appreciated! 5. Wireless LAN was easy to set up with my home network and works correctly with 128 WEP bit enrcyption, receiving an IP address via my DHCP server. The phone can be pinged from any PC on the network and let me tell you ... browsing the Web on this phone via a Wireless LAN is incredibly FAST ! :) Note: I have not tested WPA or WPA-PSK encryption methods as I am running 128 bit WEP, though they are avaialble on the phone itself. ............... If anyone has any answers to some of the issues I have experienced above please let me know.. and by the same token I'll help anyone who needs advice with some of the features I have already managed to get working. EDIT>>> Sending a text message does not trigger a GPRS connection. I was messing around with the MMS side of things and must have forgot to close the GPRS connection. Edited December 5, 2005 by dm.wood
Guest saldous Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I got my Qtek 8310 from Phones2uDirect on Saturday as well, eventually like you say. They also didn't send me the 1GB SanDisk mem stick I ordered and paid for so I'm in communication with them about this today. Anyway, I also had a lot of trouble getting the GPRS and MMS settings configured correctly. Eventually someone posted the iMate CAB file which does this for you and it worked perfectly. However I am on O2 and not Orange so the link I was given won't work for you (it was: http://www.clubimate.com/support/SP_OP_SET...UK_SP_V1.4.CAB) I am sure someone here can post the link to the Orange settings? You can get them here: http://www.buymobilephones.net/sp3_setup.ihtml but you have to pay for them I think :-(
Guest saldous Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 (edited) Just seen this: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?act=Attach...e=post&id=16712 but I'm not sure these work on the SP5/Qtek 8310 Edited December 5, 2005 by saldous

How do you set WEP to 128 bit? I'have the options only to set wep and insert the key (and entering a 128bit key it told it's invalid)
Guest dm.wood Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 How do you set WEP to 128 bit? I'have the options only to set wep and insert the key (and entering a 128bit key it told it's invalid) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 128 bit WEP is defined by the key length you use on the access point. On my Wireless access point the pre-shared key is 13 ASCI characters in length = 128 bit. If i were to use 64 bit encryption the ASCI pre-shared key would only be 5 characters in length. If your wireless access point only allows HEX (hexadecimal) keys then for 64-Bit, the key length must be 10 digits, while for 128-Bit, there must be 26 digits ASCII Input The characters making up an ASCII WEP key may be alphanumeric and may include underscore symbols "_". When choosing a key, it is important to keep in mind that the key is case sensitive. Hexadecimal Input When using Hexadecimal WEP keys, the key is alphanumerical, but is limited to the letters A through F. You are right about only having the WEP option. On my WM5 Qtek you only have the option to tell the phone to use WEP. The phone can only use the pre-shared key you supply so if its 13 characters long and matches your wireless access point key then you will be using 128bit encryption. I'll follow up on your MMS links shortly and let you know if I manage to solve it for Orange. I will be moving to O2 in about the next week anyway so I can use the CAB file link you have posted :)

I tried https://www.clubimate.com/support/SP_OP_SET...WM5.0_V2.00.cab link but unfortunately its for Pay as you go. Im on contract and when I try to send an MMS with these settings I get the following 2 errors. "Unable to send your message(s). Your messgae will remain in the Outbox" and "An error occured when the message was being delivered" Do you have a link to the WM5 cab file for contract phones on Orange? Thanks in advance for any help :)
Guest shadamehr Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 In the last post, hover over the truncated links, and read the full filename in your borwser's lower status bar, to see which is contract, and which is PAYG by the way... HTH

I deleted this folder by mistake and may not have put everything back correctly.. perhaps someone could copy it to the the PC and ZIP file it to me ? In my UAContents folder I have 2 subfolders \templates and \Temp Both of these are empty.. is this correct.. I am sure I saw a template file in the template folder while I was browsing. I understand that this folder stores MMS content so this may be the problem ..its worth checking. I really would like to get to the bottom of this.. not being able to send MMS is a real disappointment :|
Guest saldous Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 \UAContents\Templates = 14 files, 3 x .jpg, 3 x .dat and the rest are MMS templates. \UAContents\Temp = this folder is empty.

I have no files at all in \UAContents\Templates ..do I at least need the template files in there??

I had been trying to resend the same message over and over again. With the Orange contract CAB file settings and a new message the MMS went fine WOOT ! :D Thanks all for the help and the CAB files .. its looks as though my original message was corrupt and causing the problem after all
Guest shadamehr Posted December 6, 2005 Report Posted December 6, 2005 Pleased we could all help mate - glad you got it sorted.
