Guest sagan Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I'm trying to figure out how to use the modem feature to turn my laptop into a wireless fax sending machine. I travel a lot and have to send (but luckily not receive) faxes. I'm wondering specifcally how I can use the SMT 5600 with windows xp and send faxes. When I connect my phone via BT it only lists dialup networking as a service. When I utilize the modem that it creates with MS Fax it fails. Any ideas? I wouldn't mind using the USB cable if that worked better.
Guest sagan Posted January 17, 2006 Report Posted January 17, 2006 Is there no one that has used the SMT5600 as a modem from their computer? This sounds very strange to get so many views and no replies. I saw the posts about the USB Modem driver. I've been able to setup the phone as a modem via usb and I can query it and all that. However it simply doesn't work as a modem. I can't even tell if it will dial out... Is there a special number I need to add in front of it? What about modem commands?

I think the problem is in the Modem command, try many but still not success. Is there any progress???

Guest mmmaiki Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 It might have to do with your carrier. When I had Sprint service years ago, I could use my cell phone as a modem to send a fax from my computer. With T-Mobile, I have not been able to do so. The cell phone does appear as a modem, and one can use it to dial-up to a dial-up internet service (CSD call), which is just charged as minutes. However, it will not send a fax. I called T-Mobile Customer Service, and the response was-to do that you have to sign up for a special plan that enables fax sending through the phone, for $10 extra. I rarely use that feature, so I wouldn't spend $10 extra montly for it. I doubt that many people sign up for that plan. They would be better off it was free, more people would use it, using up more of their minutes. If you are also on T-Mobile, there is your explanation. If another carrier, they might have a similar policy.
