Temperature - how does it work?

Sorry if this is a really stupid question:

I have a qtek 8020 and downloaded a homepage screen for my phone. Suddenly I found out that is actually has a temperature reading that works?

How can that be? I find no temperature display in the standard phone settings (windows mobile 2003 for smartphone).

Also, the temperature reading is very irregular. Sometimes it actually works, but with very slow updates (every 2-3 minutes). Other times, it stays stuck at 82F even though I put it in the fridge. Rebooting makes no difference, it still stays there.

Yes, my phone works at fridge degrees :-D

I think the temperature readings are usually the temperature at the battery, might explain why it stays like that when its in the fridge
