Trying to load SP5 ROM on Qtek 8310

I am trying to figure out a way to load an imate SP5 ROM image on my Qtek 8310 phone. The installer says the vendor is not recognized, and believe it is due to just two registry entries. These are:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Platform\OEMString

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Platform\RUUModeName

Mine says "Qtek 8310"

If you have an SP5, please let me know what your registry has for these two values.

mine says:

i-mate SP5m

but i doubt that is the problem, i expect the installer looks for something in the rom or hardware to decide what make the device is ??

I was sure they put this check in after the first flash, but over in this thread people have suceeded without problems

i just dont understand why people want to put on untested ROMS from one device to another when it was not designed for it.

why? just stick to the manufacturer ROM updates instead of a different ROM for the device, regardless if the specs are the same or not.

warrenty is the issue as well as a chance of screwing up the phone.

Are you referring to Clearvue? Then why trying to load a i-mate rom?

I think the real reason is qtek roms are not readily available. I think only the nordic sites have full support and not everyone speaks the language.

To clarify my reasons:

1) imate has been out of stock big time; was able to get the Qtek 8310 in its place due to needing it asap; heading out of the country for a month

2) The phones are identical in hardware, regardless of the OEM

3) Qtek shipped with French version of the OS

4) imate has an English version of the ROM

5) I own another imate, so I have access to all ROM updates from imate

6) Qtek support is non-existant for the English population, nor do they support you at all.

Now, based on all this, I simply wanted to install the English-only ROM on my Qtek, and treat it like an imate SP5 moving forward. Really...they're not different phones. I could understand getting a Cingular phone vs. a Tmobile phone, but from two OEMs, neither of which are the Telco.....
