Guest rasncain Posted December 7, 2005 Report Posted December 7, 2005 Ok I just got my SMT 5600 and I am noticing some issues with the use of GPRS and certain applications. Currently I have the following connection settings: Internet Connection: Cingular GPRS Work Connection: Automatic WAP Connection: Cingular GPRS Now for the details of each connection type: GPRS Connections: Name: Cingular GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.cingular User Name: [email protected] Password: unknown it was programmed in Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: Blank Dialup Connections: Name: Cingular Connects To: WAP Network Phone Number: *99# Username: [email protected] Password: unknown it was programmed in Domain: blank Proxy Connections: Name: MEdia Net Connects from: The Internet Connects To: WAP Network Proxy: wireless.cingular.com:80 Type: HTTP Username: blank Password: blank OK, so now the problem. I use two things on this phone that require a GPRS connection. The first is Xpress Mail, the second is Gmail. With the above settings my Xpress Mail works fine, it will connect via GPRS and stay up to date with my exchange server at work. My gmail which I configured through the account setup wizard on the phone will not work. It never seems to even create a GPRS connection. It errors out and says "Error: Unable to connect. Verify your dialup or proxy settings are correct, and try again" Now, if I go in and change my connection settings to the following: Internet Connection: Automatic Then edit the GPRS Connection above "Cingular GPRS" and change the connects to to that of "WAP Network" then I can check my gmail account via messaging. But at that point my Xpress mail stops working and will not connect. I dont understand what the difference is. They both use GPRS to connect but something about "The Internet" versus "WAP Network" makes one work and not the other. Any ideas on if I can in fact get both to work without having to reconfigure each the connections settings each time?
