Hi Guys sorry if this has been spoken about before but i cant seem to find it anywhere

I have a C500 which im happy with but i see the C600 listed on the orange website and the only thing it has over the C500 is WM5 and Megapix cam

is there anything else Orange have missed out on or is that it

Thanks for reading :)

The SPV C600 also has the OMAP 850 processor, 64MB RAM and EDGE capability.

IMO the C600 is a worthy upgrade to the C500. I have a C500, C550 and imate SP5 and I still like my C500 for it's size :)

I wouldnt upgrade.

no wifi and orange have kept saying "it will be launched next month..." for the past 5 months now. and its never happened.

since last week I ordered my imate SP5m which has wifi built into it and I can do cool deving on it using WM5, SQL Server CE and more!!! :D

I LOVE the phone. its sooo awesome

its JUST like the C600 BUT BETTER - has wifi and other features.

im just fedup of waiting for the C600 thats why i decided to go for imate sp5m because it offers hell of a lot more than C600. :)

I have 2xC500's and im happy with them too!

mikey86uk of course! You can use it on all GSM networks.

and the SPV C600 is way better than C500 :).. all the functions that martin said + 1.3MP + QVGA (320*240px) display + Windows Mobile 2005...

but as i heard many programs will not run on C600 because of the new operation system (WM 2005)

I used my upgrade to get a C550 (replacing a C500) and was going to use my wife's upgrade to get a C600. However, I'm now considering the iMate SP5(m) probably because I like the idea of Wi-Fi.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy? A quick look on teh interweb revealed a few O2 offers that look good.

(Not so many for the SP5 though.)

SIM only is an option, but works out slightly more expensive over the year, plus you still need to factor in call charges. So I think contract is the way to go.

Regarding the I-Mate SP5m - Would I be able to run the same software as I have on my current phone a C500? Things like world times, oxios plugins etc?

Does it take mini SD cards as well? These things are important to me you know!

It looks like a beast of a phone, and I'm tempted to buy it you see, esp with the wifi built in...

In my opinion the QVGA screen is worth the upgrade by itself. The no wifi thing isn't as big an issue as most make it out to be. The tornado wifi implementation pretty much sucks right now so it will only cause you aggrivation.

Also, right now there are now compelling reasons to use wifi on a cell phone (its a must on a pocket pc thought) in my opinion. When we get decent VoIP implementations, better active sync support for it, the ability to use it as a wireless gateway to a cell data network from a laptop, etc. THEN wifi will rock on a cell phone. Right now it has quite a ways to go.

ive never had problems with activesync for C500 or E200. its been spot on for me, esp for bluetooth activesync

the Imate SP5m rocks even more because activesync picks up the OS version and configures it accordingly - even better ;)

wifi on it is amazing no doubt. it is really good, trust me on that. I'm into this stuff esp the deving side of it. :)

Wifi is pretty decent for the mobile device - i can use it anywhere I wish without any problems! :D

Simply enable it from the communication manager and away you go!

defo get the device, otherwise I would not have bothered to post alot of good things about it as well as getting it myself :D

i'm also thinking of upgrading, i would like to know, do the C550, or the C600, take the same battery as the C500? i have a spare, would be nice if i could use it.

i take it that the mini SD is still the same?

cheers :)

Didn't I read that the c600's qvga is up close to the glass while the sp5's qvga is back further... thus yileding a better viewing experience on the c600 over the sp5? Am I remembering this wrong or mixing it up with a different phone?

your mixing up :D

tbh - im REALLY happy with the screen quality of my phone even though im not fussed as long as its visable!

best decision I made to get the Imate SP5m and quit orange!

1 contract gone, 1 to go.... :)

Actually I remember reviews saying the gap was greater on the imate screen and therefore better on the C600. Not that I've seen both devices so...

true but if 2 definative reviews are stating that the screen is deeper on the imate than the C600 (which I will be getting to replace my C500) then I'm inclined to take their word for it. Especially seeing as they've clearly studied both phones in depth and should therefore know what they're talking about.

I'm no techie or anything. I've had the C500 for about a year now and would say I probably haven't even scratched the surface of what the phone can do. I found out today though (through these forums) that I can get a program that will allow me to send files via bluetooth. That was irritating.

One thing my in-the-know-work-colleague told me about the phone was that I should visit coolsmartphone.com I guess i shoulda listened to him 11 months ago!

In regards to the C600 and more specifically it's tie-ins with Orange... How big will be the memory chip that comes with it? I've been looking at the phones available from orange and when I read about the C550 (before I saw the C600) it said it came with a whopping 512mb memory card. Will be looking at that coming with the C600? I'll be mightily impressed if it does.

Realistically though would they distribute it with anything less than 128 mb? i mean it has a megapixel camera, surely they'd take that into consideration?

One final thing that's been bugging me since i got the original C500 - is there any software i can get that allows me to download my sms messages to my pc a browse them and delete/group delete accordingly? I think scrolling through 10,000 text messages to try and find one in my inbox is a bit annoying!

Thanks...

Have you compared them side by side? I'm curious to know what the difference really is.

Unfortunately Modaco doesn't seem to sell that one so you have to get it elsewhere.

I got a C600 and sent it back. It's a complete waste of time and WM5 offers nothing significant over WM2003. It's a real moose of a moby too and has a dreadful keypad for texting. Unless a higher screen res or a mediocre camera is what you're after, I'd stick with a C500 until something better comes along that actually offers something useful. When I got a C500 last year, I was genuinely impressed by how great a handset it was. It was a huge improvement on WM2002 in every respect. This time round with the C600 however, its more a case of "is this all there is?"

I don't buy into this whole early adopter "lets get the C600 for a .1 upgrade" business. And that's exactly what WM5 feels like, just an incremental upgrade rather than a wholesale change. Of course, many will argue that the changes are under the hood making it quicker, more stable and reliable. I don't buy into that either, I don't care what's under the hood as long as it does what it should do and I can see the improvements. I didn't find the C600 to be any quicker or more stable or smarter than WM2003. Over the 12 months that I've had a C500, it's never required a hard reset or locked up so I see no compelling reason to upgrade.

Apart from USB 2.0 support, there's are no real world useful functionality that WM5 offers. Other than WiFi that Orange have very kindly removed to make the phone as least attractive as possible, there's nothing in WM5 that you can't do in WM2003. The QVGA screen, whilst pretty to look at doesn't offer any improvement over the standard res. It's clearer, more vibrant, will impress your mates and you can see a bit more on the screen but so what? You could compose a text message in full on the old OS and there are few full screen games and apps available.

If you must upgrade, I'd go with iMate. The SP5 has built-in WiFi at least that is worth the upgrade and even though their customer support is manned by a bunch of muppets who failed their Orange Customer Service entrance examinations, their website offers freebie downloads, especially games.

Thanks for that comment.

I was looking at moving from my C500.

The options were the C550 with the 512Mb card or go for the C600 which I think only has a 64Mb.

Looks like the C550 will be the better option of the two.

I have also looked for any significant reason for the C600 and I couldn't find ANY reason the C600 is better.

For the last point, would TomTom 5 mobile as installed on my C500 work in a iMate SP5?

This may be a decider for me.

I've had a mess with a collegues C550 and apart from the screen resolution being better I actually prefer my C500. The C500 seems better put together and finished and is shaped nicer. I think the edge of the C550 screen looks a little cheap.

Just my opinion though.

I wouldnt have upgraded to a c600 unless I had lost my c500 as I was quite happy with it. I have been messing around with it all morning and I have to say it is very similar in look and feel to the 500. Bluetooth sync works alot better and the screen is fantastic.

So far it looks as if there are no vast improvements however you only really come to appreciate the value of whats "under the hood" about 3 to 6 months after general release once all the boffs have worked out how to wring the most from all those little extras. I must say I look forward to seeing what kind of apps can run utilising all the RAM the C600 has.

Yes it will work, however there are a couple of things you'll need to do first.

1) Upgrade to 5.20, which is available from the TomTom web site.

2) Contact TomTom giving them the device code of your new phone and ask them to reactivate it for your new device.

Firstly, apologies if the answers to my questions are already here on forum but I've been trying to catch up and search and haven't clearly found the answers ....

if they are here please give me a link as I've failed to find it myself, despite trying

Anyway, I've drifted off the smartphone scene after being thoroughly happy with the c500 for 12 months (having had the e100 and e200) - screen quality/resolution is the main reason why I want to upgrade (and can do so for free) to the c600, but I want to make sure I'm not chooosing an 'upgrade' which offers me less functionality than I currently have ....

I think the quick questions are;

1. How do I application unlock ?

2. How do I SIM unlock ?

3. How can I transfer my sms history to the new phone ?

4. Does the smartmonitor plugin work on qvga homescreens ?

5. Can the orange sidebar icons be changed ?

6. Whats the current best movie converter/ player ?

Help is appreciated, and some new homescreens will follow if it's worth the upgrade

I have an upgrade due, and put simply, I'm sticking with orange and theres no other decent phones.

Therefore c600 for free is what I went for.
