Guest leftofcentre Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 I am been a happy orange SPV owner for years, but i must say i am tempted by t-mobiles web and walk offer. Normally i don't like pda's but the vario's keyboard seems to be cool. Has anyone jumped from a C500 to a Vario? Are you happy you made the move? Can you fit the Vario in your trouser pocket or is it too bulky? Also whats t-mobiles customer service like? Is it as good as orange? Any opinions would be really appreciated, as the choice is driving me bonkers. Brian
Guest w411y Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 The Vario is a great size! One thing it does have over the C600 is that it has WiFi. I myself would go for the Vario. I have a C550 and an M1500 and must say I prefer the pocket pc format. IMO Orange are starting to disintergrate. Theyre getting worse and worse. Cant comment on T Mobile however. >>Click here for a Vario review (It shows pictures of the Vario next to the C550 which is pretty much the same size as the C600) >>Click here for a C600 review One last thing I will say is to go into your local Orange/T-Mobile shop and have a go on both devices Good luck :)
Guest d1nsh Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 I was in the same boat and had the same questions, so i went into the T-mobile shop and has a quick look and feel. After my quick feel i decided i would wait for a C600 or go for the SP5 because: A: it was too bulky for my pocket, and it felt like it would fall apart quite quickly (im prone to dropping them) and B i wouldnt use half of the extra stuff the Vario has. If your happy with your C500 and wont use the Office apps installed on the Vario i would stick with the C600. Although the tarrifs offered by T-Mobile are very good. Go to A T-MObile shop and see for yourself!
Guest chrisbpr Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 i went from a c500 to the vario & i am well pleased with it.as for cs i have done the self serve option which saves you a bit more money on the monthly line rental & on the one occation i have talked to t-mobile they seem helpful but time will tell. i was with orange for 8+ years & imho they have gone downhill very sharply in the past year.
Guest leftofcentre Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 (edited) Unfortunatly we don't have any t-mobile shops in Northern Ireland :) I am thinking like d1nsh, realistically how often would i use the extra vario features. I would be concerned about it being a bit bulky in the pocket. Also being tied into an 18month contract is not great, as there is always new toys coming out. My C500 has been a dream of a phone, so maybe its better to stick with what you know. I phoned orange earlier, the C600 is out but only for new customers  It will not be available for upgrade users for a few weeks yet. What are orange playing at? They need to get their act together, as they must be losing a lot of people to the t-mobile web and walk offer. For the vario owners, whats the keyboard like? can you type fast on it, or is it a bit fiddly? Brian Edited December 13, 2005 by leftofcentre

Guest minty1978 Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 i went from the C500 to the vario, it is top quality. and is packed full of features. mine is doing fine, i've got tom tom on it too. can be a bit battery hungry with the back light on....
Guest leftofcentre Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Now I'm really confused, damn you choice. I wonder why orange did not go ahead with their version of the vario? Brian

Orange UK has recently launched two other PDA type devices, the SPV M1500 and the SPV M5000 and are still offering the SPV M2000 and SPV M500. We will continue to review all devices and launch those most appropriate to the UK market." From Coolsmartphone

How ever if you go with t-mobile they are trying to sell this on their web and walk option, just using GRPS would make this an impossible option. I have a C550 and love the size i would personally wait until something with 3G turns up. The C600 is not that different to the C550 and i managed to get one unlocked for under £100.00. If you want a cool phone with lots of extra then the vario is what i would choose ok it is a little chunkier that the C600 but you have a masive touch screen and also a decent keyboard.
Guest leftofcentre Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 Well talking to a few people it turns out that the t-mobile coverage is very bad in northern ireland, so it lots like i will be staying with orange. I think both phones look amazing, but the SPV has never let me down, so i am happy enough to go with the C600. Now all i need is orange to stop feckin' about and give me the thing :) Brian
