Guest Peppermint Hippo Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Bit of a vague question but what is it? I've noticed that some videos that are jerky and stop/start on my devices (Vario & Compact) play fine on my mates XDAIIi. Is this because its more powerful etc? If so, what is the most powerful PPC device? Thanks all :)
Guest Pondrew Posted December 13, 2005 Report Posted December 13, 2005 Well, the two most powerful processored HTC Pocket PC Phones are the HTC Alpine (XDA IIi/SPV M1500) and the HTC Universal (XDA Exec/MDA Pro/SPV M5000) with their 520MHz processors. The most powerful pocket pc itself that I've come across (and to be honest my knowledge IS NOT extensive) is the Dell Axim X51 at 624MHz.
Guest commonpersonjustlykeverybody Posted December 14, 2005 Report Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) i agree with pondrew, the processor of dell axim is the most powerful amongst the pocket pc but the disappointing thing with this device is it's not a phone. Guest fraser Posted December 15, 2005 Report Posted December 15, 2005 The simple solution to jerky video is to re-encode it for the correct screen resolution. If it's not, the device has to rescale and that's very CPU intensive.
Guest scottb Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 The Samsung i730 also has a 520MHz processor.
Guest Confused Stu Posted December 19, 2005 Report Posted December 19, 2005 Alternatively, if you're feeling brave, you can use a program called Pocket Hack Master to overclock most HTC PPC phones (works excellently on my M500). It runs reliably at 585Mhz and can run for a little while at higher clock speeds (I did have a 700 odd running a while back) but I always run out of courage and slow it down before it breaks. I have heard of other over-clocking programs that don't work, but I can definitely say Pocket Hack Master does as the phone seems zippier, and TCPMP not only registers a higher CPU speed on it's Settings pages, but gives a higher benchmarking figure over standard too. That said, I only have it mainly for bragging purposes - if your video's choppy I agree with Fraser - recode it to the right size for your screen. With PocketDivxEncoder it's not that big a deal at all. :)
